Subframe bush removal

Featured Replies

Want to fit my Cupra R front subframe bushes at the weekend. Can it be done without removing the subframe from the car? How to press out the old bushes or will they need to be drilled out?

I want to know too

Do you you mean the bushes at the rear of the front suspension arms?

If so, you can carefully cut through the aluminium outer sleeve with a hacksaw and then the old ones will push out relatively easily. However, I would recommend using a press to fit the new ones as they are VERY tight. I managed to get mine most of the way in using a large bench vice and some suitable bits of wood, but had to carefully resort to a large hammer to finish them off B)

No, not the wishbone bush, already had them done.

Have now got subframe bushes from a Cupra R like these;

Would like to do it myself instead of paying some else to fit them.

Ah, right, I see.

As they are two piece and look like the middle bits fit together, they look like they should just fit either side of the subframe and the bolts clamp them in position.

iirc the subframe has 4 bolt holes ( the top two in the pic being upside down ? ), 1 bush per hole

From what I remember of seeing subframes off the car, it would be much easier to drop the subframe ( to get bushes out and new ones in )

They are a two piece bush for the rear of the subframe.

The front bolts dont have a bush in. Was hoping to be able to loosen the front bolts enough to drop the rear so as to get the bushes out.

the stock subframe bushes required a lot of messing around to get out on the first subframe that i did.

Ended up drilling them out then peeling them out once drilled enough, a pain off the car let alone on.

They are a two piece bush for the rear of the subframe....

I remember now, the two bushes pressing into the subframe unit from opposing sides

as Oet says, that's going to be subframe off job

Can you get a local garage to press the bushes into the subframe ?

Looks like I'll be getting the garage to do them then. Might even wait until the uprated rear subframe bushes turn up and get them all done at the same time.
