VCDS checking injectors

Featured Replies

After reading about people concerned about maxed injectors at high bhp, I thought I might put my VCDS kit to good use and do any tests that I can to make sure mine are in decent condition. So far all I've managed to find is to check measuring block 13 on the engine controller, which gives me the following results at idle (typical values, they all jumped about a bit so I just left it for a minute or so after starting up as the engine's still warm from driving home and then took a quick snapshot):

Cyl1: -0.42

Cyl2: 0.05

Cyl3: -0.16

Cyl4: 0.52

I know that each of the four should be as close to 0 as possible, that generally two are positive and two negative due to cylinder firing order (1342?) and that they should average out to approximately zero, mine average to -0.01. So I'm taking that to mean that on the whole my injectors are well within the specs, there's no one injector that's miles out from the rest (which would indicate a problem), and they average out almost bang on.

Is there anything else that's worth doing to make sure everything's as it should be under there? Cheers!

edit - I suppose also any other things which are worth checking. I ran a boost log which didn't show up any boost leaks so that's good, but this is by far the highest power/most modded car I've owned, so since I have the full VCDS kit I figured I should do something intelligent with it and make sure everything's as healthy as possible with the car...

Pretty good figures those  A tiny bit out of tilt for the firing order, as cyl 3 will normally be the opposite of cyl 1 and cyl 2 the opposite of cyl 4 e.g. -0.4 +0.4, however I notice these figures can vary from day to day, my car was showing +0.58 on cyl 1 and minus on the other three today, after a, er, spirited run

Group 18 (I think it's 18) will show you injector health, basically four zeros if all is well.

Group 3 EGR ratio (should drop to about 4.8% after idling for 2 minutes.)

Group 4 The all important Syncro Angle (timing belt alignment.)

The EGR's removed so I don't need to worry about that, and the Synchro angle I checked the other week for your thread. I forget the actual result but at the time you said it was bang on for what it should be. I'll check group 18 and see what's in there tomorrow. I did wonder about the injectors and whether they were supposed to totally mirror each other, but I just put it down to low sample rate (genuine cable but it still only takes 3 samples a second). I.e. if the figures are changing very rapidly then it could just be that the VCDS readings can't 100% keep up.
