remote fob stopped working? found a solution

Featured Replies

hey all,

new here so thought i would show you a fix for a problem Ive had since i have bought my skoda octavia. When i bought the car, the remote locking worked alright, soon the distance to which it worked gradually decreased. I thought it could be several things like that box under the steering wheel or maybe bad connection somewhere.

Everything else work fine so i have been trouble shooting ever since, the keys would not recode, the lights on the key were coming on so it was like nothing was coming in or going out.

Today i opened up my BOTH MY KEYS to find there was a loose component (on top off the microchip):

The part had come off the side with the buttons on. You have to remove the PCB from the case (i did this by cutting the black plastic holding down the PCB)

i soldered the part back on to the PCB (top right):

just so you know the component does not solder to the gold but there are two connections on the pcb for it so make sure you get it right.

and of course the keys recoded straight away!

Hope this helps someone!

for reference

How to recode:

1. Place your first key into the ignition and turn to the second notch (do not start the car)

2. Now close the door and place your second key into the handle lock

3. Turn the key to the lock position and let it spring back to the central position.

4. Hold down the Lock button on your new remote, you may hear a bleep from the car

5. Now unlock the car using the key in the barrel and remove, then take your first key out of the ignition

6. Close the door

7. Your remote should now be coded
