Timing Belt

Featured Replies

I own a Vrs Octavia and I rang skoda to find out when my timing belt has to be changed they told me 180000 km or 112500 miles can this be true? Theres nothing in the manual about when the belt has to be changed does someone out there know the answer?

You will find the toothed belt replacement interval in the Service Schedule for your car. It's what Skoda UK told you, ie 180,000km. This can be rounded to 120,000 miles just as the Schedule rounds 30/60/90000km to 20/40/60000 miles.

It is true, but ya gotta be mad to do it.

Service sheet that I got says petrol cambelt should be inspected at 60,000 miles. So tell me how exacltly are you supposed to check one without taking it off? You cant so get it replaced along with the roller tensioner.

So what mileage are you changing your belt at?

Also have you been around limerick in the last week because there is a black Vrs Estate crusing around limerick?

If you convert 180,000 km to miles it equals 111,870 miles - so that would take you nearly 9,000 over schedule - not a good thing to do.

My advice to anyone would be to replace at 80,000 miles and earlier if you have a heavily modded engine.... or you just thrash it

It's true that the service schedules get rounded - but only by around 3-4,000 miles, which is not critical.

I changed mine every 60k miles

I changed mine every 60k miles

Tempted to get mine done at 60k too, while it's in for its second(!) service
