Rear Brake adjustment

Featured Replies

Whilst painting my brakes the weekend I noticed that the drivers side rear wheel with the handbrake off is very tight, is it easy to adjust back.

Whilst I haven't actually looked at the brake system on mine as yet, handbrake should be even pressure applied to both. It's possible you have (a) sticky piston(s) on that one caliper. :(

I'm assuming you've tried bleeding the system so as you have a 'level playing field'?

Yourll proably find that if you remove the caliper and wind it in using the correct tool and clean up the pad guides it will be fine

On on a mates car was the same and it was just because the piston was sticky, took it off and wound it in and now its fine

Often cleaning around the edge of the piston with a bit of 600 grade wet and dry before winding back will cure it, if they are corroded, as well.

Would it present similar symptoms if the pads and discs were changed and the piston not wound back correctly?

Could be a seized caliper- went to try and wind mine back while changing discs and pads and spent the best part of a few hours trying, lubricating etc, even with the right tool. Even the garage had to admit defeat and order a new caliper...

Brake effort should be the same either side like someone else has said...

Good luck!

Forgot to update this thread but yes it was seized, new caliper being fitted on Friday.
