New Octavia vRS Owner - Newcastle

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Thought i'd register on here and have a look around, i'm picking up my Mk 1 Octavia vRS tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to something a little different, even if i'll miss the outright handling greatness of my previous baby, an Integra DC2, a real life human baby has forced my hand somewhat.

Obviously the sheer agility of the DC2 cannot be matched by many cars, but on the test drive i liked the more flexible power delivery of the 1.8T engine and once the brakes had warmed up the stopping power seemed ok, should be helped by the new dics that have been fitted as part of the pre-sale preparation.

I swore this would remain standard, i must have lost a good £10k on the Integra with all the modifications it went through, but worth it for 4 years of B road blasts and track days. But having said that the remap does seem an easy few ponies, especially as i have 6 tyres and some alloys for the Integra still which might release about £300 when i sell them, damn convenient amount, it's like the Gods want me to have more :strong: ..... ;)

Welcome to the forum!!

Great cars! If you need any help or what not by all means just give us a call or PM me :)

Cheers Mike,

I've started sweating already, this car is gonna get stupid i know it, i'm aware of Awesome GTi, back in the day i had a Mk2 16v Big Bumper.

It ended up bored out to 2 litres with high lift cams and fully reworked suspension, another money sink! You'd think i'd learn......

Hi and welcome aboard.

Just picked her up, £77 for a full tank of V-Power came as a shock, you'd struggle to fit £40 in the Integra.

Loving the engine, not as much character as the VTEC, and certainly nowhere near as grin inducing as when VTEC kicked in (y0) with the Mugen intake / exhaust combination i had, but the actual delivery is much more usable and i was soon tavelling at speeds i didn't expect and was able to hear the stereo still, which will keep the missus and baby happy if not me.

Bit worried about the brakes, admittedly they are brand new on the front and it's a far heavier car than i had, but unless they bed in to be much better than currently, that'll be the first upgrade i look for, even over the remap.

The other thing of course is that i may have been going quicker than i thought, once i get used to the more refined ride and lack of sound i may find that they're not as bad as i thought.

Where Abouts are you mate? I'm 'In' with the jap lot so might know who you are :-D

Wallsend way, but only just moved here, baby enforced geographical upheaval!

Just had a night of brisk but careful driving given the brake situation.

Benchmark was my brother in laws Lotus Elise S2 that the Integra kept honest, on a b-road blast he couldn't lose me.

In the vRS he pulled away in a straight line, which surprised me, i thought the Integra may have lost enough at 115k miles to be down on some power but apparently not. I'd probably have caught up on a longish track, but not legally on the road.

Through the twisties i was pleasantly surprised, obviously not as direct as the Integra but the speed is carried, you just don't realise it as much til you look down due to the slightly floaty feel compared to a poly bushed car with adjustable suspension.

Performance out of a corner is very different, the old adage about the best mod being a lesson in driving holds true here, the LSD of the Integra vs an inexperienced driver with the ASR on in the vSR makes a difference. While you can hare into a corner with the Integra, late brake to load the front, turn in and then pull yourself through with the throttle, i suspect you have to drive more smoothly and settle the car at the apex before pushing on?

All in all i was very impressed, for a "hatch" with 5 doors and enough boot space for a baby or 2 (not them but their stuff), it's quick.

When i've got confidence in the brakes and learned it's characteristics i reckon it'll be very quick, a re-map and maybe too quick for my talent!

That's suprising! I have sat on the arse of a teg quite comfortably in the Fabia, Seems daft cos I know how quick they are.

Yeah, but mine was far from standard plus i suspect that at the moment i am the limiting factor rather than the vRS.

I'll be sure to report back once i have got the brakes bedded in and i'm more comfortable with the car, i've done a few track days with tuition in the Integra so was very aware of where the limits were, i'm definitely still feeling my way with the vRS, and public roads are not really the place to be pushing the envelope....
