Led drl’s and insurance

Featured Replies

When we picked up our SM last week we took advantage of Skodas’ one week complimentary insurance.

I Got round to contacting my insurance broker today. Everything was fine until I mentioned that I had installed some aftermarket led drls. Wendy (from the policy shop) got advice from her boss and I was advised that, as they were not Skoda lights, I should not use them.

I was a little miffed and asked her to check with the underwriters - ABC insurance. They came back with a list of questions such as ‘who advised you to install them?’, ‘who told you that they improved safety?’

I sent back some links to Philips website and later in the day got the go ahead to use them. {hopefully by the weekend I will have washed, clayed and waxed our new arrival and I will post some piccies on the relevant thread}

I am not using this post to knock these people - Wendy from the policy shop was very helpful to me – but it shows that you can take nothing for granted, even if you do install something that patently makes the roads safer.Yes and they do also look a lot cooler than the OEM Drls.

Check your insurance company before they can use it to wriggle out of anything

Unfortunately, a LOT of things like that are classed as 'modifications' and gives them an 'excuse' to 'bump' up your premium.

I think this practice is ridiculous and immoral :yes:

I might one day install LED DRL on Ivor, but I will get Skoda to supply and install them to avoid being charged for the privilege of having and using them emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Doesn't matter who supplies and fits them, if they aren't on the standard specifacation sheet then they are a modification.

not according to Autoglym - it just removes surface impurities

I mentioned that I had installed some aftermarket led drls.

Please let us know when you are able to post some pictures.

Are they in addition to the standard DRL's or have you disabled them in favour of the LED's?
