Paint Chipping easily

Featured Replies

Anyone else having problems with paint chipping easily. I have 1600 on my car and it now has 3 paint chips between 2 and 3 mm round. I could except it as bad luck if they were on the on the front bumper or leading edge of the bonnet but only one is on the leading edge on the bonnet. There is one on the top flat part of the bonnet about ¾ ways back to the windscreen. The other is a big one on the driver’s door just below the mirror.

I’ve looked at a few Fabias today and none seems to have anywhere near the marks I have picked up in less than a month.

The colour is Corrida red and the really annoying thing is the primer underneath is a matt yellow. If this carry’s on the car will end up looking like Mister Blobby.

I've got a chip on the very edge of the drivers door as if i'd opened it onto a rail or something... weird as hell cos i'venever parked anywhere near anything! Avoided everything since the day I got the car!

Skoda do seam to have used softish paint I'm sure it's been mentioned before but VAG paint has apparently never realy been that strong in the first place. Mine has about 5 or so all over the bonet one on the spliter and a couple on the bumper. Most only a couple of mm.

I have a small chip in the bonnet, got a touch up pen for it but can't find it now lol :D

May harden with age... the paint that is...

Get used to it mate...mine has done 10,000 and is peppered with them on the bonnet and front splitter...they have been touched up with a touch up pen, I may one day get round to sanding it flat and polishing it out with the DA...

If I do end up keeping the car after the warrenty is up it'll probably be moddified and maybe treated to a respay if I have the cash.

whats the best way to apply the paint from the touch up pens emoticon-0148-yes.gif ive a elegance with black magic pearl, is it a little and build it up the apply the laquer later

I never use the touch-up brush as it deposits too much paint at once.

What you need is a wooden cocktail stick, dip the point onto your brush and take a pinprick of paint. This fills the minor blemish just fine and also leaves room for a 2nd coat/or laquer.

Mines got them all over, never owned a car that chips so easily.

Stone chips are a curse! Amazingly, after 3 years of ownership, I have picked up just three small ones on the bonnet. All touched up ok and are virtually invisible. I don't know if my Supagard treatment has protected it...it says it does help guard against them, but more likely it's the type of roads we drive on. We don't follow other cars very closely either, that often increases the number of chips you can pick up (not digging at anyone here). Brother in laws new Passat is peppered with them on the bonnet and he's always just a few feet from the poor soul in front (digging at him!).

If you think Fabia's are bad for stone chipping have a look at a Lotus. Most end up getting front clams resprayed
