Any ideas what it could be? The coolant is at max I believe.

Octavia 57 VRS TDI

Many thanks

if its anything like the MKI Octavia then then prong/sensor gets a film over it making it pull up a warning light.

Some people said change the bottle for new one on the MKI as it sensor was all built into it.

Me im a tight git I got a small round file and gave it a few gentle tickles over the sensor and all was good.

Saying that they probably improved the design by now so you dont have to buy new parts. NOT!

On the mk1 this tended to be associated with cold weather.

For the OP, if you run the engine for 30s, switch off, count to 10 and restart, does the warning then recur? Does it occur any time other than when the car's been standing for several hours?

Usually occurs after starting when engine is cold...

Doesn't usually appear when the engine is warm.

Is it a cheap fix to get a new sensor?

We had this on our Mk2 that we recently bought. It stopped when I tightened up the coolant reservoir lid so I assume it was pressure related.

Even cheaper get a long screwdriver and give the two prong of the sensor a bit of a scrape.

The film/corrosion build up on them until they don't pick up the readings it needs. A conductivity reading I assume.

I've had to do this a few times in winter.
