That sucks - I hate electrical problems!!

On a lighter note imagine if that speedo was legit, that would be some mind boggling accel/decelleration!

BTW I'm just down the road from you it seems, did your LE used to be standard? Used to see one around a few times, but not as yours is now - I'm in a standard black 56-plate.

Jesus Christ :o

Could be a multitude of problems. As mentioned faulty ecu, stored error fault codes, Damaged Wiring and connections (Water Damage)

I hope it gets fixed mate. Its almost on the border line of dangerous the speedo doesnt read correctly. May be worth plugging a satnav in mate to keep an eye on your speed. As long as the 12v hasnt gone mental!

That's bloody insane, hope its fixed soon.

As mentioned before use a Sat Nav for an speedo.

Was standard 11 months back. The fault is the worst. Ali at unit 18 thinks he knows what it is so I have to swap a part with a very kind friend of mine to find out. It seems water related though that would rule this part out.

It is dangerous. I rely on abs ally and for it to shut down at random is lethal. Same goes for power steering. All the time one of them lights is showing, that item isn't functional. Thanks for the suggestions to do with the tom-tom. That's assuming the 12v isn't tits up as you said.

It seems as though none of you realised how bad it was until the video. I fear it's just a matter of time until a moody mod removes it or some ideot reports it as too informative. Thanks for all the suggestions and helpful advice I've had guys.

If your unsure if the 12v socket is working, use your phone (if it has built in GPS) and download an app that shows the speed you are travelling at

so what do unit 18 think it is then?

More to the point what fault codes did it throw up??

Now now, that's a little pessimistic! This thread is staying to resolve a true (and clear!) problem with a fabia 1. Its a valid topic AND in the correct forum! :)

I would strongly suggest you and anyone else thinking of joining in stop this members v staff war with immediate affect.

This is your FINAL warning!

As for your failed dash pod, I wouldnt go driving with it as if you're pulled by the police you may find they take a dim view of driving with a failed speedo.

Removed, wrong place/time.

Hope you get it sorted before the post is removed Ross. :(

Matt

In the past it was Mods v Rockers

Now it seems to be a select few Fabia 1 owners v mods

I'm enjoying my popcorn ;-)

As a fellow mkI owner who usually likes Ross's posts even I'm starting to find it a bit petty.

It'll only go one way, so I'd reccomend carrying on being a member and stopping the sarcastic comments personally.

It's better to have you about, than not.

Oh, and good luck on gettign the car sorted. :D

Wow. That dash is going mental!

Enough to send your eyes funny!

Any light on the matter yet?

I have just fixed the problem on my car that people were suggesting. The broken wiring connector on the passenger side. That can cause problems with the TCS and ABS light coming on but nothing that crazy!

Blimey Ross, thats bl00dy bizarre. :o

Hope you get it sorted without it breaking the bank.

Sorry ross I did feel a bit sorry for you but your acting like a child who's been told off by his parents and is just being a brat. It's time to let it go, as for your car I hope it's a fairly simple fix but to be fair do you really think the car will like be lifted into the air then being slammed front end into the Tarmac? I would treat the car with a bit more respect IMO. I really did enjoy reading your build thread but untill you grow up I'm out.

Looks very similar to the one that I encountered some years ago.

It is dangerous. I rely on abs ally and for it to shut down at random is lethal.

This worries me from two perspectives:

1) If you had experience and a degree of skill at driving, you shouldn't be encountering many situations where the ABS is required.

2) Lots of other people use the same roads at the same time as you.

I always thought the mods were pretty level and fair on the various decisions they made, as said, bit of a thankless task, there`s always someone feeling they are being treated unfair. When the prada vs t1-r`s thread was moved I thought it was a little OTT though tbh, until now there`s been millions of tyre posts without being model specific, other than the car that the owner drives happens to be a fabia. Does this mean the "fuel additive" thread needs moving too? "radio code"? "312 brake bargain"? "tinting rear lights"? The list goes on, theres lots of posts that while not being directly related to fabia`s still belong in the section, and always have done before now. When asked why it was moved, Ross was just sent a link to the list of rules, saying mods have final say. I`m not arguing with that point, but it`d be nice to have a explanation as to why a decision was made.

Just a though

Fair point, not often I find the abs being needed, even when "pushing on". Could be a sensor problem if its coming in early?

Potholes cause the wheel to lock under breaking and being from Kent I suffer the worst from day to day that anybody experiences in the rest of the uk. Please keep posts thread related and not related to your opinions of my driving abilities. I'm sure that when a time came for an emergency breaking procedure you'd hope your abs was working as it should.

Ahhh. The best way to test if your abs is naffed, is drive over gravel or stoney road etc and brake to stop. Not to mad obviously, but if you skid with the slightest push on the brake, you know your abs is down.

Abs went on my BMW and was leathel braking on loose road surfaces.

Another test is over road drains (the big ones, not the ones attached to a kerb). See what the slightest push of the brake does.

I'd also get reporting these pot holes if that bad. Councils have to fix within 24 hours of being reported, and there are even phone apps to help you do it

Besides not being good for your ABS, you're likely to damage your tyres and alloys, not to mention suspension.

The abs is fine until the dash goes crazy then just doesn't work at all.

A bad repair is just as bad as leaving the hole. I'm no road fixer but they dont do a great job in Kent. I wonder if you can see how bad Darnley road strood is on street view google thingy

How on earth did so many drivers stay alive before ABS was invented, or did they just drive within their capabilities, and according to the road conditions?

And what singles Kent out as being worse than anywhere else in the country?

I think my first port of call would be:-

Lower steering wheel rake to bottom

Pull out panel below dash

Undo the 2 T20 torx bolts

Unplug dashpod from both sides, and check connections in general.

Plug dashpod back in, ensuring well secured connections, plugs clipped in securely "clunk" at end

Refit dashpod and see what happens.

All I can say is the only time I have ever had similar was when I only half plugged in one of the connections. It went as bonkers as this with beeps and lights coming on and off all over the shop. If that fails, well, VCDS will probably pull up hundreds of fault codes now.
