Featured Replies

Well has anybody else had or having the same problem as myself??? With the auto headlights switched on they pop on when in tunnels, under bridges and obviously when it becomes dark as they should. The issue im finding is that when we have glorious beaming sunshine my auto lights seem to come on !!! Anyone else suffering the same problem or can shed any light on any know faults? (excuse the pun) :wonder: :wonder:

I believe the sensor for the auto-lights is located on the back of the rear-view mirror - where it is attached to the front screen.

Make sure this is nice and clean as any dirt here could indicate to the system it is dark.

I had my auto-lights come on once in bright light.

Cleaned that area where the rear-view mirror attaches to the screen and within a minute or so the lights went out.

Yes mine do it and I got to thinking that it can't be good for them to go on and off so much so, I decided not to leave the switch set to auto.

My advise is slow down and dont go over 95mph as I think this trips the auto lights! :giggle:

That must be the problem with mine then

Seem to recall someone saying that it was done on purpose to help visibility (i.e. being seen) in bright sunlight. Can help your car be spotted or something, I just leave mine on auto all the time, if they come on there must be a reason!

That's for the auto mirror. The lights is on the windscreen with the rain sensor. Mine has done it last couple of days in the sunshine. I think it must be the difference in light intensity ie going from really bright to a tree shrouded lane would be more so than going from cloud to trees.

Sorry I mis-quoted its 85 mph, maybe thats at actual speed and not as per speedo reading, might explain why I thought it was about 95mph ;)

Page 60 in the owners manual

"Motorway lights

If the automatic light control* has been switched on and the vehicle speed is over

140 km/h for at least 10 seconds, the side lights and low beam are switched on

automatically.

If the vehicle speed is below 65 km/h for at least 2 minutes, the lights are switched

off."

Some have said it's an intended function in sunlight, but my personal view is that it's the type of light being received into the rain sensor/light module on the windscreen. As said, I can also get mine to fire if driving along a shaded tree-lined road, and the lights and/or wipers activate when there's a break in the treeline and the sun shines through :)

I didn't mean it is an intended sunlight function. I think it just isn't clever enough, as i think it will just activate on a percentage difference of light hence it coming on when going under trees on a really sunny day vs them not coming on, on a cloudy day.

Absolutely, it's indicative of the design of the sensor really. Also the fact that I can get auto wipers to come on as well, in those conditions. And they surely can't say that they designed the wipers that way as well ;)

I have never had my wipers come on too!

Now and again, usually when you least expect it! Seemingly easily confused and one of the reasons I don't leave mine up in the auto position; I only flick the stalk up when it actually begins to rain...

Oh my wipers work absolutely brilliantly.

I have the sensitivity set at half-way across and leave them in Auto all of the time.

They have always come on when required, speeding up as the rain speeds up, slipping to "extremely intermitant" when it's only spitting.

I haven't had mine come on like other posters have said but I have seen that in bright sunlight, shining directly on the sensor, when I open the doors using the remote the lights come on. I think it is due to the type of light i.e. bright hitting the sensor and fooling it to believe it is time to turn the lights on.

Hmm I don't use the auto lights and almost never use the wipers, makes me wonder why I bought the option really. I like the leaving home function I suppose.
