Detailing advice please...

Featured Replies

Hi.

I have a variery of mostly Megs products (Megs NXT Gen Car Wash, Megs Clay Bar & Quick Detailer, Megs Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, Polish & Carnuba Wax, Megs NXT Gen Tech Wax) and am planning to get some Blackhole Glaze stuff as it has a good reputation on here and I have a black Fabia vRS.

The previous owner of the car genereally had the car washed at hand car-wash places and as a result has quite a bit of scratching & swirls on the bodywork.

I'd love to pay a professional to do a really good job but with two young children I can't justify the £300 it would cost. I also don't have machine polishers.

So my question is, with the products I have (including the impending purchase of Blackhole Glaze), can I do a decdent job of renovating the paintwork on the car by hand? If so, what order should I be doing things in? And whilst I'd prefer to spend no more money on products, if I am missing something vital please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

IMO the Tech wax is poor.

otherwise, yes, you'll do a good enough job with that lot preparing and protecting your car.

You'll not be able to get rid of swirls though, you'll hide a lot of them with the glaze as it will fill them.

I'm also assuming that you'll use 2 buckets, a drying towel and either a lambswool or noodle mitt.

Paul is pretty much spot on, the durability of Tech Wax is poor and you will be re-waxing on many weeeknds if you were to apply this, having said that this is something that some people do enjoy so it's entirely up to you......

Getting a detailer to remove swirls and scratches is an option, trouble is depending on your budget will also depend on the level these can be removed too, another thing to add to this is the colour of your car as some swirls and scracthes are much more visible on solid darker coloured cars that lighter ones......

Any form of protection is better than nothing and it all depends on what level you want to acheive with the car, there are a few people in your area that I could direct you too if that would help........

Yes, yes & yes :)

Baker21, I assume you've figured out that we are engaged in a PM conversation so I won't reply...but thanks for your thoughts on here.
