1st Service?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My 170 TDi is due for it's 1st service; I've had two prices - one in at £215 (Benfield Skoda) - the other at £152 (Pullman VW) - needless to say, i have booked it into Pullman.

They were both specced as a "Long Life" service - is this about right? - and over £60 difference for two close dealers; is that not a bit rich?!

Make sure VW are putting in the right oil.

One of my local dealers were charging £140 for the 1st variable service a couple of months ago.

My services were £183 and £164 for the first two variable services (Octavia vRS diesel so same engine as yours)

Pullman serviced our Fabia last time and did a good job, washed the car and you get decent 'free' coffee in their cafe. I went there after Silbury charged me over £200 for the Fabia's 1st service :bandit: . Haven't had the Superb serviced yet so no quotes on that. Did you try Silbury? I'll bet they are about the same as Benfield. Pulman are undercutting the Skoda dealers deliberately on labour charges to take their business (Pulman being Skoda service agents only)

As I do about 30K per year in my diesel Octy VRs and I have my car serviced by an independent garage and save a fair chunk (or my company do anyway!).

As long as genuine parts are fitted (and the right oil is used) you can make massive savings and Skoda should honour the warranty.

No problems with the servicing and apart from a busted injector I've had 130,000 miles of trouble free motoring.

€160 @ 30K

£233.00 inc VAT at Wayside in Milton Keynes

what mileage was you all getting before the first service?

what mileage was you all getting before the first service?

Just over 19,000 miles

19000 miles on my Greenline 1.9, Service at Derek Slacks in Middlesbrough £226.71 + Vat all filters changed including air which is usually not changed & Wheels rotated front to back & loan car for the day.

Thanks all for your replies; Our Superb is coming up to 18,000 miles, but the MFD still shows over a thousand miles to service.

The summer's are always very busy for me, so i have decided to get it in early.

I shopped around for servicing with the last car (Kia Sorento) and found a vast difference between dealers; Looks like (as long as they use the correct oils) that this is also the thing to do with the Skoda also.

Full Credit to Pullman VW Durham this morning for my 1st service.

Clean and Tidy Dealership, Car finished on time, Drink voucher issued as i was waiting, and, now here's the good bit, they even removed the "Spring Blocks" that should have been removed upon PDI....! - almost 18,000 miles with them in!

Will i use them again? Most definitely! - A little over £150 inc everything.

I'd be having some serious words with the supplying dealer about that! Apart from the issues those blocks must have caused with the ride over the time you've had it, what damage can 18000 miles with effectively solid springs have done to your suspension. At the very least you should get it checked FOC and something in writing to confirm no issues. Look at it another way - what if a suspension problem occured when the car is out of warranty? Didn't you notice the ride wasn't what it should have been?

I had never noticed any issues with the handling or the ride of the car to be honest - i (before writing this post) have already sent an email to the supplying dealer - i await their reply - I did ask if any damage had occurred due to the blocks still being in place - their reply was no - but if the vehicle had of been involved in an accident, then it could have been a different matter.

can i be simple and ask what spring blocks are?

can i be simple and ask what spring blocks are?

Temporary inserts fitted into the suspension to reduce spring movement during shipping. They are designed to stop cars bouncing around on a transporter or container ship and and are intended to minimise damage caused by closely packed cars knocking into each other. They should be removed at the PDI (pre delivery inspection). If they haven't been removed then the supplying dealer simply haven't done their job right.
