mk1 vrs brake imbalance?

Featured Replies

Hi there, I had my car in for a service at Awesome at the end of February and it was mentioned on the invoice that there was possibly a brake imbalance. Unfortunately the technician was not available to speak to and I hadn't got time to wait!

The car seems to drive fine, no vibration under braking though the wheel or through the pedal from various speeds. The front brakes were changed by me and a mate in Oct 2010 and everything was cleaned up, copper slipped etc and my mate even commented that all the seals etc were in good nick. The rear brakes were done the weekend following the service at Awesome.

I have had my brake fluid changed by a garage two weeks ago because it's over 2 years since it was done.

The only thing I have noticed, is that on the front brakes the drivers side although not looking worn appears to be doing a lot more. The passenger side disc does not seem as scrubbed down or clear after use. Maybe I am worrying about nothing but I have my MOT due the 4th of next month. Is it worth me nipping back to my dad's an hours drive away where all my stuff is kept and trying to take the fronts apart and check the passenger side caliper isn't siezed?

I've enclosed some pictures:

That passenger side looks badly scored as though you have had grit caught between the disc and brake pad, and the drivers side looks normal.??

Suggest take car along to MOT test centre for a rolling road brake efficiency test to verify your theory, one way or the other.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Prob just needs the sliders cleaning up.

Mot tolerance is 11% if I remember correctly

Looks fine to me.You should see new Alfa Romeo with rotors worn so bad and uneven

Cheers for the replies.

I've no idea what the tolerances are for discs if that passenger side disc will end up being knackered.

I intend to take it apart and clean it all up before going in for its MOT and see what happens then I guess. I'll be looking at reconditioned calipers though if it needs them!
