DSG Owners Query

Featured Replies

Does the Yeti use the 7 speed DSG box?,if so there is an interesting article in this weeks 'Auto Express'.

An owner of a Seat Ibiza Bocanegra with the DSG gearbox has had problems with the box rattling every time he goes over a speed hump.

Seat UK have given trying to fix the fault saying it is a 'potential characteristic'.

They say 'The seven speed DSG is two manual boxes;when one is engaged, the other is idle.Over low speed humps, the noise you can sometimes hear is the idle gear clusters knocking together'.

Strange!.

The suspension is very different on the Yeti compared to the Bocanegra so id be fairly suprised if we had the issue. Would be interesting to hear if we did however. :) SOunds like a weird reason also :wonder:

I thought the point of DSG was "instant" gear changes due to the fact it prepares the next gear in advance? So I wouldn't have thought the second gearbox would be "idle" to the point of stuff just knocking around, surely it should be in gear (either one above or below your current gear) and just waiting for the input shaft to become engaged? Or am I misunderstanding how DSG really works?

Does the Yeti use the 7 speed DSG box?

It depends on the engine: the 1.2TSI has 7-speed DSG whereas the 2.0TDI has 6-speed. According to the brochure.

Yes, got the 7 speed DSG in our 1.2.

Never noticed any strange noises at all, but then I'd bet the SEAT little road rocket has far, far harder suspension.

So everything probably gets banged about a lot more.

This might be of interest to the Fabia vRS boys; they have the 7-speed DSG.
