Spring coils and maybe shocks to fit my Fabia?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, haven't asked you for help with my Skoda in a while so here are a few :)

My MOT is fast approaching (Sept) and atm the car won't pass so it needs a few things. I must replace the front sus springs as one of them broke at the bottom last winter and I was wondering if firstly I would need new shocks with it? Most sites encourage changing shocks at the same time but I trust you guys more! :D (plus I want to save a bit of cash since my insurance is also coming up in Sept!)

Also, I had a look on Eurocarparts and they want £100 for a pair of springs! Been looking on ebay but it gets rather confusing, how do I know which springs will fit my Fabia?

One last question, last winter I messed up the rubber on my wipers. I don't particularly want to get 2 new blades so is there a way I can just buy the rubber bit?

Looking forward to your responses guys :)

P.S. I found where my coolant is leaking, at the temp sensor! yay

quick bump, if I could just get some advice on spring compatibilty that'd be great :)

At least a leak at the temp sensor is very easy to fix.

Wiper blades, Wilkinsons/Tesco ones. You can buy the rubber bits but it's fiddly and you hardly save anything.

Renewing the shock absorbers means you are less likely to need to renew those at some point in the future and will avoid having to take them off again/paying the labour.

You can get a set of wipers for pounds on eBay man lol

Springs are more specific to the engine size fitted as it is car weight calibrated......dampers are relativly interchangable unless you have a vrs! as they are different.

ASDA had a set of Champion wipers available on the cheap a little while back - never had any issues with them so stocked up!

I have to admit, ASDA do have a shedload of decent consumables at a good price.

Thanks for the advice guys, do you think that Fabia VRS springs will fit my 1.4MPi, as in stock springs?

FWIW - new Skoda springs cost me £55 (I think) a side from the dealer when mine failed. It snapped at the top, but took some bearing thing it rests in with it.

Think my dad got a wiper for £2 from Wilco a while ago. Where are you based? I've think I've got a spare set here that are passable. . .

I just have an obsession when it comes to the state of my windows hence I keep renewing them if they get slightly smeary/juddery.

Home Bargains currently have wipers for £1, I believe each pack comes with two blades. The rear is dealer only I believe, although that's not checked for the MOT.

You see I ask about whether or not stock fabia VRS springs will fit or not because I spotted some on eBay...

ah ha, read somewhere else on the forum that VRS springs on a fabia is rather stupid :p

Back to looking for springs on ebay.

Would have thought putting vRS springs on the 1.4 would raise the car up due to it being lighter? Tesco wipers are £2 each and will do the job for a fair bit.

It would raise it up and wrong rating due to weight.

Can get spring and damper kits from the likes of TA Technix for £150, not the greatest of quality but better than standard.

Ah, not really worth it then once petrol has been paid for. Just a thought anyway.

It may be referring to the 1.4 diesel model.

says in the description 'petrol models only' :)

Seller is 'bumpy rides' lol, good for suspension.

Asked him if they fit 1.4Mpi models and he says they do so... guess I'll get two

Yes the rear wiper is a dealer only, but you can get universal wiper repair kits which are cheaper. It is normally only the rubber blade that wears out, not the metal wiper frame. All you do with these kits is cut the blade to the length needed then fit them. I always thought they were checked for MOT, but I may be wrong.
