newbie questions

Featured Replies

hi all my name is joseph i am 23 and i have a skoda octavia vrs mk1 in yellow with 60k on the engine and i am loving the car. But i have a few questions that i need clearing up. First of all when i got the car it didnt have a parcel shelf and was wondering will say a skoda octavia elegance parcel shelf fit into the vrs or is there differenes? and secondly how do u go about getting things like speaker adaptors/connectors and headunit adaptors and the aerial connector as i have heard something that if u put the aerial into say an alpine unit it causes problems etc?

thanks all

Welcome Joseph, Parcel shelf from any mk1 Octavia will fit the VRS. There's usually someone breaking a car in the forum classifieds. Skoda use standard ISO for the head unit so you shouldn't have a problem there, although sometimes you have to swap the permanent 12 volt feed over for some headunits or they lose all your station presets & settings every time the ignition is turned off. Pioneer do speakers that fit straight in without the need for adaptors. You'll need to buy an ariel booster if you change the headunit, cheap on ebay & rip off price from Halfrauds.

awesome thanks m8 will have a look at the headunit in a bit

+1 on the aerial booster. Its a power injector which powers the amplifier built into the base of the aerial.

right have managed to fit the radio in and the radio stations seem fine but would it be worth investing in this aerial booster ?? and i would love to come upto the meet bodie but i am working 7.30am till 2pm so wouldnt be able to make it but if u let me know say 2-3weeks in advance can try and book it off work and come along for the meet be awesome oh another question i would like to ask is the engine cover under the car with the vrs's is there meant to be one there or no as i dont seem to have one

yea i have that one lol just not sure if i am meant to have one under the car that protects things like the gearbox and underneath the car which i what i was meant to say lol

thanks all

lol, mis understood what you meant. Doh!

There should be one underneath, but it doesn't go all the way back to the subframe. It mainly covers the fans, rads and oil filter etc. The sump and gearbox are uncovered.

Welcome to Briskoda also,

Yep that was your ASR / ESP Traction kicking in. It basically drops your engine revs when it feels the wheels about to slip. You can be left looking rather silly when that happens as it takes a little while to get the engine to build revs up again.

Next time you try that switch off the ASR button on dash as this will let you keep the revs up without dropping them. The ASR is rubbish and i switch mine off most of the time.
