I would get them professionally done. Rattle can paint is never as tough as proper baked on paint or powdercoat. It will cost you more to start with, but they will last a lot longer. I know this as I DIY'd the wheels on one of my cars and they lasted around a year before they were flaking again.

Id say for DIY use 2k aerosols to make it worthwhile and PLENTY of ventilation and a mask as the fumes are carcinogenic.

+1 Yeah go for 2K that should last, used it on my calipers

Didn't know you could get 2k paint in aerosol form. Do you need to bake it afterwards?

No its got hardener obviously but you just pull the pin at the bottom to mix it, shake and just let it dry

Yeah check ebay...not cheap but worth it.

a good long lasting finish is possible using halfords own branded paint if you take yr time and have patients

I did a quick refurb on mine as when I got them they were badly gouged. I just sanded out the roughness using various grades till they were smoother then a couple of coats of primer, three coats of Halfords own wheel paint, three coats of laquer, all with a gentle sanding in between to remove droplets etc. Not a professional job but a whole lot better than they were.

If you do go for powdercoat I did read about cleaning out the wheelnut seats, something about the powder coat coming off and nuts working loose. Not sure how true but pays to be careful.

Its not a good thing to power coat alloys really!

Why is that then?

I had eight alloys powder coated at a very good price in Birmingham. I was chuffed to bits with them and its better than fussing around with sanding paper and aerosol cans for hours.

The only issue I have had with powdercoat is the extra thickness compared to paint. The wheels are a tight fit on the hubs now.

I did the same thing with a set of spiders at the beginning of the year

have a read through my entire account here or of course just look at the pictures :)
