New clutch suggestions

Featured Replies

My VRS's clutch started to slip this morning so need to source a new one, guess the shark remap found the weak spot to be the 10 year old standard clutch

Now previously when i've fitted clutchs i've always tended to go for genuine items in both my volvo and peugeot i had,

With the volvo i just put a uprated standard item in it off a more powerful engine onto the standard flywheel, it wasn't actually slipping but it presure plate was sticking and i running more power than that clutch could really take. The peugeots clutch had had it when i bought it and i managed 15k before it started to slip.

Now i know the VRS runs a due mass flywheel and the g60/vr6 solid flywheel conversion is quiet common but if my flywheel is okay is the S3/225 TT clutch any stronger, i'd rather a uprated one rather than putting standard back in again

Problem is all the 225bhp 1.8T's (LCR/TT/S3) have the 6-speed box, so the clutches are different.

If you feel your DMF is up to scratch, then maybe get an uprated clutch kit for the standard DMF. Otherwise the G60/VR6 setup is the best option really.

There are loads of options available if you go VR6, ranging from the OE LUK clutch to a race spec 2-plate clutch from someone like SPEC. Loads of weight options available for the G60 flywheel too.

I've had the G60/VR6 stuff on for 18 months now, and it's been faultless. Not slipped once.

Done a search on here and got a couple of part numbers for g60 flywheel so trip to Vw i think, then source a vr6 clutch,

What about clutch slave cylinder, just replace it for same one im guessing while box is out

You can get the flywheel from Skoda if you give them the part number from my thread. Just incase you get a good discount with them...

You can also get the flywheel/crankshaft bolts and coverplate/flywheel bolts from Skoda.

You can change the slave cylinder if you want as they are only cheap, but no massive need while the box is out as they can easily be done with the box in place. They slide into the casing from the outside, and are held in place by 2 bolts, so can be changed easily at any time.

Just a thought has anybody done a 6 speed gearbox conversation, if so how hard is it and or more to the point is it worth it

Steevie Wonder has done it on his beast! It's more work that you'd expect though, as the 6-speed box is much bigger/heavier. One of the guys on here has just put a 6-speed box in his 4x4 1.8T, so if you find his thread it details all the mods required.

You have to choose the right 6-speed box for you (diesel or petrol ratio's). The gearbox is stronger, as it has two final drive gears rather than one.

If I did it I'd want the LCR gearbox, as it's FWD and petrol, so the right setup. I've looked up all the ratio's before, so here you go:

You don't gain much speed advantage with that box, so you'll just end up changing gear more often. If you want more speed then look to the diesel box, but you might need more power to enjoy it.

If I was to change the box in mine, I would like 6th gear to rev at around 2000rpm at 70mph,

would make these cars so much more economical.
