Getting creative with a rocker.

Featured Replies

I was out at bingo on Wednesday night and a friend of mine was showing me a clio 182 which had a matching, colour coded inlet and I thought it looked pretty cool. So I eneded up going home and thinking about it and finally decided to go with it and spray my rocker Verde Ithica (lambo green) and when I can feel like spending more money on a part of the car you never see, then out will come the inni and that will be polished.

In totatl it has cost me about £45 to do

Gaskets - £16

Spray paint - £25

Machine head - £5

I decided to get all new gaskets, after pulling out a coil to find it covered in oil. Good thing I choose to change, because the whole gasket set was perished!

The inside state of the rocker was severly rough. I tried cleaning it with carb cleaner which done nothing! So I upped the ante and used unipart traffic film remover, which basically destroyed the tough oil. I gave the top side the same treatment.

FYI - a cold water pressure washer doesn't do much.

I started with polishing back the casting marks just to help it to a smoother finish and using a wire head to help take off the tarnish. It didn't really get me anywhere so I eventually came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to smooth unless I paid someone todo it. I just ended up excepting it and carried on.

I used a high build primer to fill in the machine marks - 2/3 coats

I then sprayed a base of silver paint on - 2 coats

Finally I put the lambo green on. Lambo green is a two part colour system, a solid and a transparent. If I had only bought the one tin it would have been £12 but the chap said I needed the two for the colour so I wasted another £12 on it. TBH .... it looked like sh it! So I just used the transparent to get the colour. - 3 coats

I then placed that high temp vRS logo on and lacquered - 1 coat

I didn't use any VHT paint because apparently normal paint should be ok upto 90* engine temp.

I plan to remove all of the standard engine bay crud soon like n249 and SAI and paint a few oter items as well.

I like it

I assume you don't normally have the plastic engine cover on, otherwise your hardwork would not be visible most of the time.

Cheers :). Will look better once it is all tidy and out simple. Nahh, I had to take that off because I struggled to fit the OCC pipe in otherwise. once the SAI is gone the funny plastic thing that goes across the bottom of the mani is going back in though.

Looks sweet mate.... definitely inspired!

I quite lilke that, you get a nice contrast with the hoses and bits.

The vrs logo on top is a nice touch.

Looks great

Like that a lot! B)

Thanks all.

I took it out yesterday and where it has columns for the bolts, the edges of the columns have popped at the front. Otherwise the paint is fine.I think it might have been too much or too little paint in that one area.
