Get your arches cleaned!

Featured Replies

Woke up this morning to a whole day of sunshine and a day off so thought I would crack on with doing the TT arch mod to the car.

Took the wheel arch liner off to find this beauty!

Cleaned them all out 6 months ago, so they fill up pretty quickly. :o

p.s. Ignore the 'emergency' jack. There is an axle stand under there too. ;)

I am shocked! I thought you would of done the TT mod ages ago lol. I clean mine every two months.

I remember once cleaning a car for sale and I blasted the hose in the wheel arch and a bit of mud came down so I carried on and I must have been there for about 3 mins emptying it out. I thought it had an arch liner, turns out it didn't and it was just caked on mud!

The other place to look is under the plenum covers. I saw a car the other day that was carpeted by moss.

lol at DBP, I would have done it ages ago, but didn't fancy paying Audi £40 for the privilege. Got one brand new last week for a tenner.

When I put it back together, I cut out a section at the bottom of the liner so that crap can get back out of it again. They are a really bad design from the factory. The water has to exit through a 4mm hole.

I bought some genuine front mudguards, and after 6months there is no dust or rubbish in my arch, saves you cleaning them, get the genuine mudguards for £16 on ebay...BONUS

I've got the mudflaps too - They make them worse as they block the water exit.

On mine, the "rubbish" is actually leafs and generally muck which comes down the drainage holes from the under the scuttle panel, so fitting mudguards won't make any difference to that. I generally park near some trees at work, so when they are dropping their leafs some end up there.

By chance, I cleaned mine out today - removed two torx screws from the bottom, scooped out most of the soil (=decomposed tree debris), and then rinsed from the top with a watering can (after I had removed most debris from under the scuttle panel to save washing that back down to ruin my cleaning handy-work.

Noice. Get it sold in the garden centre! Got to be a rare one! Haha.

Took my mudflaps off as there damaging the paint, didn't have time to check for crud tho so it'll have to wait till next weekend, I imagine there be a fair bit behind the splash guard tho

I was wondering about some proper mudflaps, but I am less keen on the idea if they damage the paint work

Took the rear ones off to have the bumper sprayed so thought I'd take the front off to match and I'm glad I did. They've started to rub threw the paint on the arch itself and have rubbed the paint away at the bottom of the arch/sill and it's started to rust!

I don't run any mudflaps at all now.

I did mine today, dunno if it had ever been done before, but it was the first time it had been done since (at least) March '09, when we got it.

It was a bit more full than the OPs.But no plant.

I removed the factory fitted mud flaps, pulled the arch liner away, scooped the mud/silt out by hand, then rinsed well with a hose.

No rust,so refitted, job done.
