difference in price 16" tyres to 17"?

Featured Replies

Looking (well, more like wishing) at some spiders for summer wheels, and was pricing up tyres. Jesus doesn't it make a difference to the price when you go up from 16 to 17 inch! :o

Why the difference? (yes, I know it's an extra three and a bit inches more rubber :dull: )

It depends on the width and profile as well. There are some 17" sizes which are similarly priced to certain 16" sizes. Uncommon tyre sizes tend to be more expensive as well. The prices really start going up when you get to 18" + ;)

There is £30 difference between 205/40/17 and 215/40/17 on most tyres. They are both common tyre sizes. Seems odd to me :S

Might be more now, but when I looked at a few comparing 205/45/16 & 205/40/17 there was very little in it. As said, it's down to how popular the tyre is partly

I always seem to be about the same for tyres whatever car I've got.

I'm actually surprised at how reasonably you can pick up 18" tyres for the VRS.

I suppose with so many VWs, and Audis with the same size of tyres they're manufactured in bulk.

My old car had 195/40/16 and they were just as expensive as 225/40/18
