New Octavia Estate - GAP insurance?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Am finally picking up my new MPI Estate in Black Magic tomorrow morning :)

The dealer has offered me a deal on GardX (declined) and has also offered me a 3 year GAP insurance policy for £225 (rather than the normal £349). Think this will be against the invoice price of £10990, rather than the list price, so in Year 1 may not be worth much, but might be in years 2 and 3. What do people think - is GAP insurance a good idea?

Placed my order June 29, having read the small print, I think GAP is a good idea. My GAP insurance, £250 rather than normal and Gardx £125. Got both, Gardx covers stains etc. inside and paintwork outside, the wife read leaflet and told me to get it!!!!

Have a look at ala.co.uk for your GAP.

I got a 4yr Back to invoice policy for my new Octy vRS for a very reasonable price.

For what its worth i think gap insurance is worth it. but have a look around online before you buy, i got mine a lot cheaper by doing that if memory serves me well i got it about £100 cheaper than the best price the dealer could give me

GAP insurance is definitely a good idea. Check out Surf and Protect whi have 3 different options. I was able to defer for a year to take account of the fact that, like many, my insurance gives me a new car in the first year of ownership anyway if it's written off.

+1 or whatever, I got a "discount" on the gap, which I think is slighty more than yours is, for piece of mind, its a no brainer. Def go for it.

GAP is a good idea but since you've bought a car on a special offer you'd be better declining the dealers offer and buying some 'replacement car' gap.

The dealer one is 'return to invoice' as you've said so this will give you back your £11k in the event of a write-off. But if the special offer is finished and it now costs £13k to buy the same car, it's not much use is it?

'Replacement car' gap is available which will give you however much it costs to buy a new car the same as your old one.

Do a search online and you should come up with plenty of places where you can get that cover for cheaper that the dealer is offering RTI.

I used a company called EasyGap but I'm sure there are others out there who wil be similar.

Thanks all....I had realised that 'Return to Invoice' was no good, as I got such a good deal that the invoice price wouldn't get me the same again, for at least a year I would have thought.

Will have a look online - I know that policies with ala can be bought up to 6 months after purchase, so no rushing in!!

Cheers all - can't wait to get my second Octavia as I really miss the old one!

Have a 4 year gap on my octavia vRS combi, on a like for like spec or should I said replacement car. Was going to go for the back in invoice price but if the worse happens that will not get me back into the same spec car without paying out. Its worth the money should the worse happen. Shop about and go for the policy that best suits you.

It's got to be replacement car, as the list price for what we are getting for £11k is just over £16k :D so getting back what we are paying is a non-starter - have had a look at Ala and Easy Gap, and can get better cover for less than through the dealer, so thanks for the tips!
