bad reception on 2006 symphony radio

Featured Replies

hi does any one have any ideas why the radio in my fabia has a poor reception and does not want to scan for a stronger signal

Has it always done this ?? could be the area you live otherwise, giving poor signal.

Aerial connections would my suggestion, checking if clean and well connected.

Head unit has diagnostic capability, so get it scanned with VCDS, probably the powered aerial is faulty.

I'd be pretty certain from those symptoms that the signal amplifier in the base of the aerial has died - probably through water ingress. A new part should be about £30 from the dealer and take about half an hour to fit if you are handy with the spanners (been there and done that!)

thanks very much i will try this

Has the car got the correct aerial fitted? Many car owners change them for various reasons but they dont always match the cars aerial amp and radio.

As said above, the base of the ariel has probable died, try cleaning it with electrical cleaner but if it doesnt improve then try replacing it

Same from me - I have now snapped 2 standard antennas due to the hatch spoiler jamming them against the roof box so I'd like to put a shorter antenna on instead that sits under the box.

The antenna seems to be fixed to the base with some type of barb so I can't replace it with an aftermarket shorty so I've been looking at the Audi A6-type shark fins. The mount looks right on the Audi item but no point replacing with one that doesn't work. Any ideas (other than ditching the roof box)?
