Felica wont start

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a Skoda Felicia Lxi plus (96) 1295cc, (estate) - It has been amazingly reliable for the past 4 years... Has taken me all around the country and done a magnificent job...

I had been using it on and off during the morning, when I started it up on a down hill driveway... I unfortunately started it in 1st gear and immediately stalled it (work boots on!), When I tried re-starting it wouldn't ! I have since towed it home...

Fuel pipes, pump, injector all working fine and flowing, Starter motor is fine, tried starting in 1st gear and it jolted :) However, i took the spark plugs out, they were a bit dirty. Cleaned and re-fitted, they were not sparking - So checked leads- resistance and also the coil.... All appears to be OK... Except it is not firing !! Distributor is good... All I can think of is the ECU (engine management unit) or one of it's sensor's is not working or has a fault (they all appear to be in place)... None of the fuses have blown, I have checked them all.

Im a bit bemused by it and wondered if anyone on here has come across this problem before... Im at a loss as to what to do.... May try another Ecu unit out of an identical car if i can find one in the scrap yards.. It seems like the most logical problem to me... But Im not a mechanic so am trying to figure what's up with it...

Would like to keep it running as It has been a great car... Would recommend getting one to anyone, as I have never had a car that has been this reliable and as cheap to maintain, insure, re-fuel ect.....

Any help will be well appreciated :)

Does the car have a crash load sensor? If so a sudden stall may have created enough G force to trigger it. Happened to me on a Rover 214

It could be the ignition coil that's mounted on the inner wing.

I have checked that the correct currents are running though the coil and all seems OK.

Im not sure the felicia has a 'crash load sensor', will have a wee check though to make sure. There's a sensor on top of the crank casing, one to the exhaust, there's one going to the top of the rear of the engine. The guy at the skoda garage, told me the hall sensor next to the flywheel is a possible one to check...

Hall sensor sound possible.

Mine got damaged when I had my engine changed as they didn't remove it before removing the gearbox.

Just un-do the bolt(s) holding it in and have a look. Mine had big scuff and dent in it.

They quite commonly go anyway and are very easy to swap over. I got a really good (almost new) second hand one for under £20.
