5W30 oil on vRS

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Ive just found out that when I had my turbo replaced 2000 miles ago, they put 5W30 oil in with it.

My new, 2000 mile old Garrett turbo has blown this morning. Will this be down to the oil? It was decatted, then remapped, then the KKK turbo blew. Ever since the KKK was replaced, the new turbo has whistled quite loud, and Ive been told thats down to the turbo being starved of oil.

Any help would be massively appreciated as I need to pin down who is responsible for this.

Wouldnt think it would go again that quick even with that oil? Perhaps an issue elsewhere someone could explain, eitherway whoever fitted it will have to replace it and get the right oil in this time, nevermind the damage that may have been caused elsewhere

Providing the oil meets 505.01 spec (I think that's correct) then it would be fine.

I've had my car serviced the last 2 times by a vw specialist with 5w30 long life oil and had no problems.

Sounds like the turbo was either faulty or it wasn't fitted correctly.

As long as this 5W-30 oil meets 504/507 spec, it will exceed the specification of 505.01. VAG now recommends this oil for higher performance PD engines who have 150 BHP and over.

What went wrong with the first turbo? Was the oil feed pipe changed?

First turbo was an overboost problem, it just blew.

When it was changed the garage changed everything, flushed out the entire system and gave it a service. Hes also just phoned me and said that the turbo looks fine, even though its whistling super loud, and there white/blue smoke pouring out of the back and no boost. Im confused
