OIL PICK UP PIPE

Featured Replies

My 2002 VRS has now done 102,000 miles so i thought it was about time i changed the pick up pipe to be on the safe side, after seeing the state of some of pipes that other members have swapped over. I could not believe how blocked mine was, even though i do an oil change every 6 months, so if you are thinking of doing yours, do it sooner rather than later, going off the condition of mine i'm almost sure i would have run into problems.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

The old one is on the left.

exactly the reason i brought bhis up months ago!!!

should be a skoda service item imo

For just under a tenner, it is definitely worth doing, although you do have the extra cost of the sealant and additional tool to get those annoying bolts off from around the gearbox unless you already have a good tool selection.

Not the easiest DIY though (if you are just used to doing oil changes and the odd brake pad replacement then this might test you a little more). It would be good if we could start a thread that rates the complexity/skill required for different jobs, as it is easy to think a job is simple because an experienced person thinks it is, but to someone else it is quite tricky).

Got mine ready to do next time I do the oil. Only about a month away. Only done 51k, but has been on veriable servicing all it's life. :o

Not any more though. :D

Maybe best I change mine.... 185k and on variable servicing :giggle:

Mine has been on variable all its life and its on 102k now just donr the pipe and mine was not worth doing. Mine was clean and never done before.

I am surprised how bad peoples seem to be.

I think it all depends on whose looked after the car previously and factors like that. I changed mine the otherday and it looked like the one at the top.

On the hardness scale.... I have never done anything to a car till I got the vRS and I done this on my own. Had to ask for dads help with the gearbox screws because I didn't have the kit, but other than that I thought it was **** easy. One thing I would say is, when you jack the car up, jack it even more! That sump is low. I had mine close to a foot off the ground, slid underneath and burnt my nose on it.
