Painting polished alloys.

Featured Replies

i have an opportunity to buy some highly polished audi rs8 alloys.

thing is that i dont like the polished look so would want to paint them.

can this be done ??

Yes :)

They'd probably need flattening down first though, then primer, then paint, then lacquer.

You could just paint straight over, but don't think it would be that hardy - plus the finish on the paint wouldn't be great.

I took some polished TT alloys a few years ago and had them refurbed. Came up really well, but that's obviously using a professional service. Have some before and after photos if you're interested.

photos would be good if you could forward them.

i wasnt considering doing them myself because i am useless.

so would be using a pro.

alan, bluvrs2 got a good job done in leeds for decent money, but not on polished alloys.

who did you use ??

No worries, will dig them out.

Was around 2005-2006 and I used Proclean Alloy Wheel Refurbishment that time. They're over on the edge of Liverpool, in Prescot. I think the guys that worked there have now moved on and setup their own place, which I'd use next time. Just can't recall the name of the business off-hand...

It's not a problem for any decent refurber though, as they'll acid dip them, or otherwise use a process that will clear the polished finish right off, and reveal and normal base to work from emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Here you go. This was one of the wheels before they went in. I bought them in this condition:

And this was the final result

excellent finish.

thanks for this.

i know it was a while ago but what did they charge you.

£30 a wheel emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Bargain I know - hopefully they're still doing the same standard of work, for the same price! As you can see, for the before and after transformation to be possible it's also a full repair service, not just a quick paint job. They had the wheels for 5 days (obviously allowing for how busy they were with other jobs, but also a good sign that they like to take their time).

As I'd like to use them again to spruce up my original 17s, which I plan to stick some winter tyres on for later in the year

Found them :)

Seems to now be £40 a wheel, 18-20". Still a steal in my book, if their work is still upto scratch (I've no reason to think otherwise).

Got any pics of the wheels you're thinking of having done? Do you mean S8 alloys?

thanks for that

dont have any pictures but they are the same as these on ebay 110604156413

except they are audi originals and not reps

Ah yes, know the ones. No such thing as an RS8 though. And the S8 wasn't fitted with these either, but anyway ;)

Know a guy that has them as original wheels on a 54-plate A8 3.0V6 though
