Is 130k miles asking to much if I went hybrid?

Featured Replies

Mulling over the idea of a hybrid k03s and now wondering if it'll be asking to much of my 130k engine?

It will be fully serviced ie water/oil pumps, cambelt, tensioners, rollers, oil pick up etc.

What are peoples mileages at that already run hybrids?

I don't wanna spend all that money and then find something else wrong!

sure it will be fine mate

Mileage is nothing these days on a well looked after engine which i'm sure yours will be.... plus the Vag 20v Turbo unit is solid, infact it's one of the most tuneable engines around these days!

it'll be fine

Do it! If the engine blows you can sell me some cheap parts when you break it

si it will be fine ;-)

The engine should still be spot on at that mileage (mine's perfect at 126k). I'd expect mine to easily reach 250-300k miles. The engines seem pretty bomb proof, it's the suspension and bodywork you have to worry about in the long term!

You have to remember the car's only worth 50p in today's second hand car market anyway, so you may aswell have some fun with it!

When/if my turbo wears out, I'll be going for a K03s hybrid. It just makes sense....

I run weitec coilovers and after 10k ones leaking?!

I know what your sayin about prices bodge, I think that's why I'm swaying towards the hybrid. May aswell have some fun and run it till it won't run anymore :giggle:

It's in for the coilpacks on the 13th.......although I've never had an issue with them.

It will be fully serviced belts, pumps, fluids everything etc so the only weak spot I think would be the clutch, which would be an excuse to do the vr6/g60 conversion.

I'll be changing the wheels and there colour!.....not White, black or silver ;)

Now to start shopping for bits I suppose, can anyone add to the list incase I've missed something

S3 maf

S3 injectors

S3 fuel pump

Fmic

Si

mines still going strong at 160k (touch wood) lol

Youll need a different TIP to use the S3 maf. also the Ebay CAI isnt big enough and I dont think the std airbox is either as they are 2.75" diam and the S3 MAF is 3"

isnt the fuel pumps the same?

FPR 3.5 bar or 4 bar?

Isnt the intake in the K03s hybrid the same size so going for the S3 Maf is over the top? Just get the Neuspeed(Copy) TIP and a CAI and good filter.

sounds like a plan that Si, on another note tho, you must of got a bad shock mate as my weitecs have lasted ages for the money. The lot I sold were mine and were 18month - 2 years old iirc and had done plenty of miles mainly on Mways but were spot on and still felt really good, the ones I have on noy are off Andys car and are just as good even tho they are 10-12 month newer, still going strong and soon to come off.(tomoz all being well KWv3 time)

ps,

do a fuel filter change too.

Billy

I thought the whole point of going for a K03s hybrid was that you wouldn't have to change much else, as you're using the same compressor/turbine housings.

Haven't ever researched it though, so could be wrong! I'd be interested in a "bare essentials" shopping list too, just for reference....

you can fit the hybrid and not change any parts but that would be pointless !!!

the problem is once you go above that 250 mark injectors and fuel pump are needed aswell as the large maf to get the best from the turbo

yes billy the pump is different

si you need

hybrid turbo

s3 intake pipe and airbox ( cheap from scrappy )

s3 3 inch maf

s3 fuel pump

s3 injectors

4 bar regulator

good front mount ( note the good)

good custom remap ( note custom as all the hybrids from cr are coming out slightly different )

can come from s3 cupra r etc etc usually bits on cupra.net

other bits needed

oil and filter

coolant

turbo gaskets

new banjo seals

fuel filter

not cheap if you buy new but you can prob get 90% of it second hand and fairly cheap

its a job that you could do yourself as its not hard and then just run actuator presure to the mappers

should see a very healthe 270+

all depends what you want from the car as you could go pick up a second hand k03s for £150 and cars fixed !!!

give me a shout if you need anything bud

p.s billy once you got them kwv3's on your car will be in a different league!!!! truly awesome setup

Is the s3 airbox different to mine?..apart from the 3" inlet? I'm sure I could make it fit :giggle:

All the oils, filters and otherbits will be done on the service which will probably be at the same time I do this

I'll be collecting parts for a while....bargain hunting ftw

Looked on cupra.net the other day and the parts for sale bits gone???

I'm only doin it cause I owe my bro an arse whooping in his ATR

Yeh Cupra.net got rid of their parts section, something about too many arguments and people getting ripped off or something like that. Shows that Briskoda is the best vag forum!

Well.........had a chat to swmbo last night about cost's and she said she'd rather get a new car than spend all that on this one. I can see where she's coming from in a way, it's a 9 year old car that's not worth as much as it'd cost to hybrid it. I'll be putting a standard turbo on it and sorting the bits n bobs and we'll see how it goes. 

P.s women are spoil sports sometimes

yup, mine does understand how attached I am to mine tho and I said from the start when something brakes it will be fixed with better bits lol.

they just dont see the point in spending a few hundred notes on a car, but let them buy a handbag for 300+ and their all over it lol.

Ah well mate, ne mind least fixing it up will only cost a few hundred notes and you can still have some fun in it.
