Minor dent on my boot lid

Featured Replies

can't believe it, not even had the car three months and i've pranged the rear end :(

staying at the inlaws house, they have a steep driveway which runs down to the house, i've maneouvred my old renault into the space in front of the house 100 times, no problem, somehow doing it tonight for the first time in the new car my foot slipped and my car rolled into the house

fortunately the damage is not bad, but its bad enough and its going to need fixing. there are various scuffs on the bumper which can hopefully be polished out but i'm more concerned about the crease in the boot lid.

i know if this was an insurance job, it'd be a new bumper and new boot lid straight away, but i don't want to go through the insurance, and i don't have any spare money as such, but i need a proper repair job doing - i can't leave an almost new car looking like that

see pics below - anyone in the know suggest how i can fix this and what it might cost?

I don't think the damage looks too bad, are the dents on the boot lid creased or just dented?

If they aren't creased they will be easier to pull out.

Also the bumper just looks scuffed, is it holed / pierced?

If not then a mobile repairer will be able to make the repairs.

On a recent used car we bought we had the dealer repair some parking scrapes which looked worse than yours, these were all fixed by a company called Chips Away if I remember correctly.

ouch sorry to hear - that these things do happen though not any easier to take at the time.

there are smart repair firms such as sprint finish that can do a really good job, I've had the rear quarter sprayed after someone caught mine in a petrol station, it was about £100 and you would never know the finish is spot on. Dents can be pushed out by smart repairers (usually £80-£100 a panel), if they can get to the back of the panel, that inner hatch liner is a bugger to get off though 1001 clips at awkward angles, I think sprint finish will subcontract the dent side if it can be pushed out or choose to use filler. If the paint on the hatch isnt broken and the back of the panel can be got at it should be a lot cheaper.

I think even a smart repair is going to cost £250 quid plus for that lot doing properly.

the dent is slightly creased along the lip line of the boot lid unfortunately and its broken the paint too

i think the scuffs will come out of the bumper no problem - once id cleaned it up they weren't bad at all, i'm sure something like chips away will sort it in no time, its just the boot lid i'm worried about really

bumper and boot lid will need painting for sure, a good painter should be able to soft edge mask the boot so the top wont need to touched.

I guess the question should be, do I bite the bullet and take it to my skoda stealer to get fixed so as not to invalidate my warranty but knowing it'll cost more, I do I get an independent to do it cos I know he'll do a good job for a reasonable price - I know a guy who did some good work on my old Renault

If its a good quality repair no one should ever know including the dealership! If done properly theres no reason why it should cause any problems in the future.

if it rusts they can check and will spot the repair.

Personally, given that your car is so new I'd opt for the dealer repair. It might cost you more now, but will give you the peace of mind for the next 11 and a bit years (perforation is now 12 year warranty, right?) that if anything happens you'll be covered.

Fair point but I'm only looking for 3 years trouble free and after that it'll be someone else's problem *selfish hat on*

do a search for "Skoda Authorised Repair Centre" in your area. We have AutoFit in Sussex and all work is to factory standard. All the dealer will do is send this to their local friendly bodyshop anyway.......

i'll try that, the guy i've used before with my last car is an approved suzuki repair guy, so they obviously think he's good enough, i'm going to at least let him have a look and quote it

here's the guff off his website:

We offer full accident repairs work, from a tiny chip right through to a full re spray, and everything in between! We are an approved Suzuki body and paint centre, and we deal with most local car garages repairing vehicles to forecourt standards. Our team can also undertake insurance work.
