You may still find they have put the right stuff in. It may just be the invoicing system doesn't show the full name/spec as entered into the sytem. That's quite common. But do check.

Indeed. Mechanic assured me today he did use longlife oil, but the front desk had prepared the invoice before the service to give me a price and had put standard oil in at that stage.

Hi Alan C

Only just 'revisited' this thread today and I'm sorry to learn of your experience.

I can understand the lingering doubts you might have following the 'assurances' offered by the mechanic that longlife oil had been used.

Have you received a revised invoice for your service OR are you simply retaining the first one showing that 'standard oil' had been used. I ask because in the very unlikely event that you do have an issue you can 'point the finger' and say "Well you're the one's who used that oil!".

I've now covered 500/600 miles since my service and have to say that while I keep thinking I hear the odd noise from the engine that's not quite right I'm sure all will be fine. Indeed yesterday I became aware of a regeneration taking place which completed satisfactorily.

You may find - as I did - that you'll possibly receive an email 'survey' from Skoda inviting you to give your opinion of your service experience. I logged my disappointment that a mistake had been made but did give credit for the way the mistake had been dealt with.

This may however be dependent on your servicing dealer/Skoda having your email address.

In any case you might want to raise an 'issue' with Skoda UK regarding the invoice 'error' and your concerns occasioned by this - John Goode appears to be 'the man' there. That will at least give you a case number.

I hope all is well as the miles are added to and that it's not too long before you can fully enjoy your car again.

Regards

Alan

P.S. I hope this is not an issue which exclusively affects Alans!!!

Alan

actually I'm pretty happy with the explanation - the mechanic knew what sort of engine he was looking at, and ticked the box marked "fill with 507 oil" on the workshop checklist. So as far as I can see the correct oil has been used and documented, I've just been charged for the other sort. The service reception were quite aware of DPFs and potential for problems!

I don't suppose the use of the PD type oil would have any effect at all on the running of the engine itself - I think the issue was long term use clogging up the DPF.

Alan

That's absolutely right Alan. Running the wrong oil (505.01) would be ok for 10k. It would have no effect on the DPF in that time, although of course it's not recommended. The problem would come if you ran the wrong oil long term repeatedly. DPF's are proving tougher than many of us thought (me included) and in general don't give any problems.
