SE Plus or Elegance?

Featured Replies

Hi there

We're thinking of a new Fabia soon, and we seem to be down to choosing between the SE Plus and the Elegance.

We need to get an automatic with cruise control (I've got a knee that aches on long journeys, and the mrs can't / won't drive a manual).

I'm interested in having a maxi-dot and Amundsen, an MFSW, and the mrs is interested in a rear parking sensor. By the time you work out what's extra on each and what's included there doesn't seem to much money between the two.

So is it best to go for the Elegance as presumably it's a better core spec than the SE Plus? Or SE Plus and pay for the extras we need?

Confusing stuff, so all advice appreciated!

Thanks

Rob

Use the Skoda calculator and work out what's better value

If it was me i go for SE+ there is some very nice standard equipment and pay for the options you need

I find it odd that some things that are standard on the SE+ (like electric rear windows) are removed on the Elegance. So I would look at the standard list and the price list and work out the difference. I think the current VAT offer includes factory options.

Work out whats best for you but when I looked at the configuartor recently i would have thought SE+ plus pay for anything else you need.

Bearing in mind that the extras won't be worth much come trade in time but the Elegance spec will.

Thanks for the replies, folks. Using the configurator and adding our options the SE+ comes to 15,020 and the Elegance at 15,665 (not including the possible discounts etc.)

To be honest the SE+ standard extras are more attractive to me than the Elegance ones, so it doesn't seem to justify the extra £645. But I also take the point about the extras not counting for much in the future.

I'm erring towards Chloebear and Bullyboy's position at the moment!

Thanks

I've also had a look at Broadspeed, following a tip from a chap at work, and their initial quote for the same spec as I put in the configurator is just under £12k. I know the £15k I posted above was before the VAT discount is deducted but it still seems a good deal!

Has anyone had anyone experience of ordering a new Skoda through Broadspeed?

Rob

Have a look at the internet deals on the Honest John site as these are often better than Broadspeed. I bought a Skoda Fabia from Autoebid and was very satisfied with price and service.

Thanks, tlx, will do.

Funnily enough when I phoned Broadspeed today they checked their best price with a dealer which came back at £13.5k - £1.5k more than the online quote they enticed me with, and after the VAT reduction and dealer's discount not especially competitive.

The plot thickens! The max price on Autoebid - for both my SE Plus and Elegance options - is £13.5k too (only £12 difference between the two), and that includes Bluetooth - which I hadn't included in the Broadspeed options.

The mrs wants to go to our local Skoda dealer at the weekend and see what they can do on price for us. If they aren't flexible then it looks like Autoebid is worth a try!

With the options you would need to add to each based on your calculations on the configurator the SE+ looks the better deal.

As already posted the options will count for nothing as a trade-in and little as a private sale. The Elegance will be worth more but not the extra £645 that you would pay out even if you would change again in a couple of years.

Based on this I would go with the Elegance based option.

It will be interesting to see what the dealers best price is for both, also if a difference in the estimated build time. Either way requiring the DSG box means a long wait .......

Well, to cut a long story short we've ordered our new Škoda Fabia Elegance hatchback from our local dealer. They got to within £450 of the Autoebid price, with a couple of freebies thrown in, which was close enough to persuade us to go local.

Delivery date was loooong, as expected, with December / January estimated at the moment, January more likely.

So the wait begins, but we are happy with our decision :)

Rob

The elegance is a really nice spec! The wait will come around quickly. What engine did you go for?

I noticed you were interested in the sat nav/maxidot. If you ordered it, have you made sure the Maxidot is listed seperately on the order sheet, even if it includes it. I got stung with this and my car never arrived with Maxidot even though the brochure said 'Amunsden + Maxidot'.

Yeah, it'll soon be Christmas lol.

We've gone for the automatic, so the only choice is 1.2 TSI 105PS. We've ordered the sat nav, and I made sure the salesman wrote "Sat Nav with maxi-dot" on the order form as I had an inkling I needed to get it recorded in writing!

I wonder when I should first expect a contact from the dealer. I know the car will be months yet, but it's over 3 weeks since we placed our order and there has been no contact at all. Is this normal?

Rob

Very normal it will be up to you to chase them for update on your car status it can be a issue but be a nuisance, don't hold your breath for delivery but I think it's better than it used to be ;)

I realise this is a bit late for you (but it may help others)

You had a very lucky escape not ordering through Broadspeed, their c/s needs to improve MASSIVELY, I would never order through them again or recommend them to anyone - no matter how cheap they were.

We should have poll of the best and the worst dealers on here!!

The satnav/maxidot issue is only on the monte carlo - elegance or SE spec then sat nav dies get maxidot.

As an aside, bluetooth phone will also give you maxidot on all trim levels where it is an option

Broadspeed are not a dealer - they are a very small broker who rely on getting a customer and then touting dealers to acheive the price that has been quoted. If they can't get it, they blame the dealer network. They add nothing and you are just paying them to negotiate for you

Hi Adamc260,

If lack of Maxidot is really an issue you could see if the dealer would look into retrofitting a maxidot binacle into your car, would be easy enough for them to do and effectively you've been mislead.

Adam260 has not been on for a while I think, he's been royally sh@fted by skoda emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif
