Knocking from drivers wheel

Hi,

Mr Mk1 Octavia VRS has started to make a bang / knock noise from the drivers front wheel while normal driving and a clunk noise (just one) when heavy braking

Took it into the local garage who replaced my strut mounts, Car did handle better but the noise is still present and now pulling my hair out as they said that there is no movment in the bushes etc

any idea what could be causing this?
