Retro-fit Multifunction Steering wheel - Gotta have redundant "flappy padles"?

Featured Replies

hey stoofa, if u do end up getting a 3-spoke with paddles, and remove the paddles - any chance of me getting the paddles of u?

i'm looking at getting some spare paddles, but not at a cost of an entire steering wheel!!

Congratulations, you've won 1st prize for the number of times someone could mention paddles in a post.......

Because its square? :giggle:

I to like collecting other VAG logos, I particularly like the type with a car attached to it.

I've got one of those

Cars, not logos :)

I know :giggle: - I think it's acceptable though as it's effectively sacrificial to keep miles off a superior VAG brand car.

Thanks to all who posted.

Now I'm not great with messing around with cars - I'll do an oil change, I'll give a car a service.

But when it comes to electrics or "really important" parts of the car I don't like to get involved.

So, where would one go to get a MFSW fitted?

If the paddles can be removed from a 3-spoke then in all honesty that is probably the way I'd like to go - keeping that OEM feel.

Is there anywhere in particular that could supply and fit?

Or if I purchased the required items - -anywhere that would do the fitting for me?

What parts would I need to buy - just the steering wheel? Airbag? Other bits & pieces?

If you are any where near Mansfield I would let Ben (Shark_90) have it.

I'm not near Mansfield - however I've been to see Ben before (when we had a coding issue with a retro-fitted Maxidot in my old Mk2) so know he's a good fella.

Maybe I'll drop him a line and see what he has to say - I'm always happy to "travel to good work" which I know Ben would do.

I'd let Ben have it if you're not near Mansfield, but make the trip anyway :)

You'll need the wheel (obviously), new controller and some small wiring loom - don't ask what it does, I just know you need it! You may also want to replace the stalk so that you have one without the trip computer buttons, but I didn't bother with that. Ben did my wheel for me - very swift job. You can get a three spoke wheel without paddles but it has smooth rather than perforated leather. I actually prefer it to the stock one and am very pleased with it. It's fairly easy to add the vRS badge from the stock wheel onto it as the smooth leather/ three spoke one doesn't come with it.

Sarge.

Is the badge just stuck on or are there any locating pegs (and therefore holes in the wheel) on it?

So in your opinion it's naff - so presumably BBS wheels look naff if they don't have Skoda badges etc etc

It's called modifying!

If you personally want a bog standard Skoda, feel free, just don't say anything else is naff, unless you use those magic 3 letters IMO :p

Why?

Surely, It goes without saying that what he has posted is his opinion.

He is entitled to his, as much as you are entitled to yours.

We know what modifying is.

I agree with him FWIW. I can't stand to see different badges on cars. (Or bikes, As I am a motorcyclist, too. And DO modify those)

All of this is IMO, of course. There. I said it for you. Happy?

And so it begins............ :dull:

I treasure your input, and am totally beside myself with joy :)

The badge has a single locating peg which fits into a hole in the stock wheel. My new wheel didn't have the hole so I just took a hacksaw to the peg and then stuck the badge on. It's dead easy - I mean, if I could do it anyone could!

The nice people over at Shark can do me a 3-spoke, flappy paddles removed, supplied and fitted for £350inc.

Just gotta decide if it's "£350 nice option" now :)

Sounds good. And is the option you wanted, sans paddles :)

Go for it emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Given the wheel itself (IIRC) is listed at £450 retail i'd say that was a bargain!

Now get to it, and let us know how it works.

LOL.

I really shouldn't be making purchases at the moment.

My wife was made redundant at the end of the current teaching year, so we should be saving our money :)

But then it does sound a good price - the wife need not know....just off to Mansfield, see ya later love.

Just tell her you're going to see another woman, she'll never guess you're getting something for the car ;)

Stoofa,

FYI the paddles can be stripped down then the bits that screw to the wheel can be filled, sanded down and painted, making your very own blanks

(I am in the process of doing mine)

LOL, I'm glad its not just me that sneaks off to get things done to the car in secret.

Eibach springs and Bilsteins are going in on Saturday along with "a look at the noisy suspension"...

And here they are (didn't spend a great deal of time getting them perfectly blemish free as you will never really see them).

This is what you get once they are removed and stripped down, all the bits on the left are surplus to requirements, it is just the bases you require, some P38 (filler), sand paper, primer and satin black paint.

Top stuff - looking nice!

Definitely tempted to go and get sorted now :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Just fell across this and it looks interesting. Now my Octy is in a bad state at the moment but I'm curious about procedure.

Starting with a non maxidot, stream audio, basic wheel. What would you say is the best course of action if you wanted to upgrade all three?

Having never used one I don't know if you need the multifunction wheel to actually use the Maxidot. Adding to that, do you need a MFSW to use OEM bluetooth too?

Anyway, whats' the best order?

Maxidot > Audio > wheel?

Maxidot > wheel > audio?

etc not going to list them all :)
