Retro-fit Multifunction Steering wheel - Gotta have redundant "flappy padles"?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've read a few threads on having the multi-function steering wheel retro-fitted.

Impression I get is it can be done - not overly cheap, but not a bank breaker either.

However am I right in assuming that if you retro-fitted the MFSW into say a manual car, you would still have the "flappy padles" the the DSG uses, albeit they wouldn't do anything?

Or is it possible to retro-fit in an MFSW that doesn't have the paddles?

I wouldn't mind the extra features on the steering wheel, but would find the addition of the paddles "annoying".

There are two sorts of MFSW - a three spoke with flappy paddles and a four spoke without them.

The 3 spoke VRS logo MFSW is only available with flappy paddles but there are non-VRS-logo ones that have no flappy paddles.

The flappy paddles are hardly noticeable from the driving position, and you won't feel them unless you outstretch your fingers behind the wheel.

I'm sure they come off the MFSW easily before fitting.

My L&K has the 4 spoke wheel without the flappy paddles, though I have heard that the paddles can be removed from the wheel if you were to get a 3 spoke with them fitted.

"Annoying" because deep down you regret not buying a DSG in the first place, no doubt ;)

Just get a golf / scirocco flat bottom mfsw - they're much nicer wheels.

Not really, Auto is a lazy mans car its no funn (i've had an auto ;) )

Strange, I could have sworn my comment was a reply to Stoofa - are you and he one and the same person? :)

And have you forgotten that the 'auto' you speak of can also be driven semi-manually? :p

A typical response from a non DSG driver Brimma :giggle:

Lol, the DSG is'nt an auto, more a self changing manual. :giggle:

The DSG was not really of interest to me.

I did take one for a drive and compared to the "auto of old" it's amazing.

But....oh I don't know, in the end I decided to stay with the manual and no, I don't regret that choice :)

If I get the MFSW with 4 spokes I'll know that really it should have 3.

If I get the one with 3 it'll have the paddles that will annoy.

If I go for the Golf Or Scirocco then it'll have a big VW badge in the middle which will equally annoy :)

I'll have to have a think on this one.

A 4-spoker, even with a Skoda badge, would IMO look pants in a vRS

Nick and I have both got flat bottoms ;), and we can cope with the veedub badge because the wheel looks so damned good :)

I'm sure I read one thread where they were looking at rewiring the flappy paddles to something else like volume or the likes...perhaps I was dreaming!

Sorry being childish

I've retrofitted a 3-spoke MFSW without paddles on my 1.8 6speed manual

Replacing a 4-spoke NON MFSW...

You can do it yourself .... But better of being done by someone with experience ...

Also if you don't have a MFSW you will have to change the steering wheel control module to a highline one .!

All from skodateile.cz

you could just put a vinyl sticker over the VW badge, no?

Why bother?

Why bother?

Looks naff! Seen a few pics of people in a Skoda driving around with Audi badged alloys, VW steering wheel

So in your opinion it's naff - so presumably BBS wheels look naff if they don't have Skoda badges etc etc

It's called modifying!

If you personally want a bog standard Skoda, feel free, just don't say anything else is naff, unless you use those magic 3 letters IMO :p

Personally I would either take the paddles off a 3 spoke or fit a 4 spoke wheel,

VW or Audi airbags just look wrong in a Skoda, if you must fit another marque to the car then at least cover the badge with a decal - any decal ... well almost any. :giggle:

I give up

Looks like Nick and I have got naff cars that just look wrong

VW steering wheels and BBS and Compomotive wheels respectively

Hey ho

Don't get upset Bryan, both of your cars are awesome, yours only looks naff when you are behind the wheel.....:moon:

In all seriousness, I think if I were in your position I would probably want to run Skoda badges/decals IMO of course.
