Aftermarket radio portrudes after fitting elegance drawer...

Featured Replies

The aftermarket radio sticks out a little now and the converting faceplate rattles ever since I fitted the elegance drawer. It used to be a snug fit when the cubbyhole was in there. I took the glovebox off and squeezed my fingers in to move the wires, but the cage still won't go in all the way. As a result, the faceplate drops slightly and gets in the way of the drawer's push-to-open mechanism.

Has anyone else found this problem?

The only thing that comes to mind is that since the drawer is deeper than the cubbyhole, there isn't enough space at the back for all the wiring. Is there any other access point to get behind the radio and push the wires to one side?

I had the same problem.

In the end I took out the vents above and the glovebox and with a lot of fettling, swearing and a bit of blood, managed to get all the cables behind to go into the dash a lot more.

I think some people cut part of the dash out behind the stereo. TBH the next time my stereo comes out I think I might try that.

I thought I was just being a noob! Any special tools to remove vents or just a flathead to prise the latches?

Sounds drastic...

It's perfectly possible to get aftermarket stereo,

with extra wiring for Parrot kit, elegance drawer

and pop out cupholder in there.

It's a squeeze but it can be done. There is a recess to the left and rear

of the head unit where you can fit the block of connectors for the aftermarket stereo.

It will never look perfect as the OE stereo is curved and any aftermarket unit

probably won't be.

As mentioned before glovebox out is the best way to get

your hand back there.

I'm not on my PC so I can't get any pics up. :(

EDIT Just read back through your post...

Conversion faceplate? That's probably where you're having probs.

There's a trim strip available from the main dealer that sits above the

stereo. It's around the 3-4 quid mark. Get one of those and you'll

most likely find it easier.

Here's the part number

Really sorry, didn't see your edit. This is like the faceplatethat i've got. Is it like the OEM you're referring to? If it's a bar that sit's only above the stereo, what about the gaps to the sides?

The gaps to the sides should be covered by the rectangular trim surround that came with the stereo. The need for the strip at the top is as the original stereo covers that part.

I've got an elegance and did the aftermarket headunit. You need the trim from skoda that grr666 posted about.

It actually clips in and matches the dash 100% cost me about £3.05p

Hope this helps

That plate in your link has aditional side and bottom peices.......this could be causing the stereo to not slide all the way back into the hole.....use the Skoda OEM one as per GRR666 post as this is just a "top" strip.. B)

That'll definitely be it - I replaced the entire surround and curved cubby below with a double din arrangement and new cubby because I was unhappy at the top of the OE curved cubby showing below a single din radio. I then found exactly the same issue as you - that the radio wouldn;t sit back into the dash far enough.

However, because my trim was double din I was able to trim the extra side and bottom pieces back to allow the radio to sit in further. I don;t think you'll be able to do that with your so you'll need the OE Skoda trim. The problem is the top oof your drawer will then be visible because of the curvature on it.

Yep!!......I got rid of my OEM draw and fitted the cubby hole (got USB lead in).....and the top of that is now visiable as the radio sits fully in....oh well...everything works and sounds as it should....I just hate these "made to fit OEM..anti-theft radios"....the dash never fits right with any after market stuff...well not 100% anyway!
