Spotify in Iphone4 trough MDI, possible?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am quite new to this forum but have read most of the threads in the Superb II forum with great interrest. Must say that this is an great site and great forum that answers a lot of the questions I had.

My issue now is the following. I have ordered but not yet receieved a Superb Elegance MY2012 with a Columbus satnav and a MDI interface. I usually dont have any (or very few) mp3:s in my Iphone 4 but instead use Spotify very much (streaming music service). Does anyone know if I can control Spotify (change track and so on) trough the Columbus interface and the steering wheel controls. I.e not only trough the aux-input but also using the full functionalitu of the MDI cable.

Your comments would be much appreciated.

Not an answer to your question but you can stream spotify via bluetooth.

Streaming music on the move is going to be very variable and the connection may not be able to sustain sufficient transfer rates, especially as the phone will switch between 3G and GPRS constantly in weaker signal areas.

You cannot control spotify on the MDI connected phone, all that does is give you playback of the songs stored on the phone itself, but as mentioned you can use A2DP to get the music to the headunit but you'll be controlling it via the phone itself.

Ok, thank you for the quick reply.

3G / Edge coverage is not any issue since Spotify allows you to sync all playlists offline. Meaning that I have the files stored (not as mp3 though) on the Iphone and would not require phone service coverage.

I believe I understand that I can play tracks as normally trough the iphone controls and via the aux-inlet and perhaps also trough the bluetooth.

What I would love to be able to do though is to control the music from the Spotify Iphone app in the same way as from the standard mp3 Iphone app via the Columbus and steering wheel controls interface.

Has anybody actually tried this with an Iphone (or any other phone with the Spotify app) and can say for sure if this is possible or not.

Thanks

Hi.

I use spotify with my columbus all the time by bluetooth. I´ve tried using spotify through MDI aswell, but when a song finishes, it starts playing from music from the "ipod app" instead so I´ve decided to stick to blutooth. Unfortunately spotify can not be controlled from the colubus and song titles are not shown (as far as I know).

Ok, thank you very much. Much appreciated feedback. Now I know what to expect.

Lars

I'm using iPhone4 + Spotify all the time in my 200 TSI -11, using Bluetooth. As you already know there is no way to control the Spotify app from the car. But using a Brodit mount and your phone is very close and easy to control. All the info about a track and so on is right on the phone, in a close range. There is no need to control it from the steering wheel :)
