Engine Misfire......

Featured Replies

Well... Got my VAG-COM and connected it up. Gives the following message under engine:

2 Faults Found:

16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

P0300 - 35-00 - -

16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected

P0302 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0110 1101

Can has no boost whatsoever and I only just made it home - it was really struggling (luckily only about a 1 mile journey).

I know the readiness indicates an 02 failure and there was an oxygen related error mesasge which i cleared, which is related to the missing cat - but that's not a problem (is it Disco - ou est mon ecufix silvousplait?)

Does this sound like a coilpack failure to those 'in the know'? Car has done 20k miles.

Does anyone have any pictures of the engine with the cover off and where 'my friend' (who doesn't know anything about engines) might find these mysterious coilpacks...

Thanks guys :(

Dave,

is the CEL on (I assume it was already on for the CAT "problem")? If it is then it's probably a coil pack.

There is another thread (or maybe it's be moved to the FAQ) which has pictures on how to check and remove the coil.

I think you mentioned that when the CAT is removed the ECU detects this and puts the engine in "limp mode" (or something like that:confused: ) so you can virtually crawl home. When a coil pack goes as I understand it the car is driveable but real rough but I suppose how driveable depends on the number of coil packs going i.e. how many cylinder you loose use of.

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s 15 days and counting.:D

Dave I have a coilpack or 2 in my boot. :D

Lift the cover off the engine (4 screws), and they are fairly apparent. What you doing tomorrow night (or even this afternoon)? I'll pop round if you want.

phew!

Big-big thanks to Jon (TaviaRS) who popped round and showed me where the cylinder 2 coil pack was hiding. 30 seconds later and my Skod was running perfectly :D

Interestingly he spotted that although i've never had another one fail - no.1 coilpack had already been replaced! Dealer must have nicked it while it was sat in the showroom before i picked it up!

PS Jon - tried that same bit of road in my car - what a difference! While i thought mine was great before - it felt all wallowy and all over the place in the corners compaired to yours.... and try as i might - i never managed to hit the same speed on the same stretch, by a difference of about 10mph!

Roll on Jabba remap (/brakes/suspension/fmic/etc. )

Dave, could probably do it quicker with a bit more familiarity with the road :D

See, told you I drive like a Granny!

PS The granny happens to be Pat Moss on acid :D

And I'm glad that your car is returned to full health, nice to be able to help someone out. Its easy when you know how :D

Now all I need to do is to get the suspension set up properly, rather than just using the out of the box settings. Hmmm, trip to Wales this weekend I think. Should get it set up nicely :D
