External Hard Drive

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if I can add an external hard drive to my Octavia 06 (elegance) with a stream player + multi disc in the boot. And if so how do i do it or how do i wire in my Ipod? Thanks E

depends if it's a stream or stream mp3.

Can't see how you could wire the USB drive directly. The current MDI system supports these with direct headunit control, but you would need to upgrade to a Bolero or Columbus first, then retrofit the MDI.

You can wire in an auxiliary port, which you could connect an iPod or other MP3 player to via the player's headphone jack.

Would have to be a Connects2 with a non-mp3 Stream on an 06 though.

To allow MP3/iPod playback through the stereo, yes

Or get a dension 300 i have one has both usb and ipod connection (needs cable), not sure if they are still making the 300 but i have seen them on ebay

Plus the info comes up on maxidot

Not heard the most promising reviews about those Dension systems though, in terms of longer-term reliability.

Wasn't it the 300 that quite a few people had issues with it dropping off the Maxidot menu?

Pretty sure they needed a FW upgrade to resolve the drop out, and they seemed to prefer newer can gateways too.

well mine is on the newer MY09 one alright with stream mp3, it has dropped off the maxidot once since i have had it in a year and 4-5 months at this stage must be one of the lucky ones i guess *touch wood* and a reset sorted it

Phatbox is still a good option - they go for peanuts on eBay. I really enjoyed mine before swapping to a Columbus.

I've got a Dension GW 300 in mine.

Its great when it works, but a pain when it vanishes from the Maxi-Dot display.

I'm not sure a Firmware update was ever released for this problem ?

I found a fix, well more of a workaround for when it goes from Maxi-Dot. Use VCDS to tell it there is no CD changer,

then tell it has a CD changer and it comes back for a while.

That reminds me, I must plug my laptop in and get it back as I've been listening to the same playlist for 2 weeks now. :-(
