BBS CH Reps

Well I've posted this question on the mk5gtigolf forum (don't take offence Wardy :giggle: ) and I have received the complete opposite views, out of a half dozen replies, not one of them have had any issues with CH reps, and a couple have been running them for over 2 years now.

Haha! Good to get a wide range of views on these. Sounds like it was worth doing; unless Golf owners have differing levels of expectation of course ;)

As said, Pete seems happy with his set. You'd be hard-pressed to spot any differences with his set and a genuine setup side-by-side. Weight, finishing etc looks good.

Those would look a bit too fiddly and overstyled on the Octy IMO.

Well I like them.....:moon:

Digressing, bumped your brake thread and asked a question!

Just 'furb your Zeniths and get on with it! Or talk Rob into those CKs :D

Brake question replied to.

Can't afford them..... :'(

Like those VZs. A good alternative. Decent price too for genuine.

I thought I'd share this, below is my message to an eBay seller, imo not an unreasonable thing to ask:

My question -

Hi, I am very interested in these wheels but I am concerned about the quality, have you had any returns due to bending/buckling or issues with the finish lacquer peeling etc? Also do you supply bolts for the wheels?

Thanks, Lee.

The response :

you are joking we only sell top quality wheels just look at our feed back

My reply:

No offence intended, but they are cheap for a set of 18" wheels, plus I have owned replicas in the past which have suffered the problems I mentioned.

And there reply:

not our wheels

Ok, so their feedback is 100% for a staggering 69 items sold :dull: but to be fair that is based on delivery time and quality of product out of the box, not after 6 months driving over pot holes etc.....

My view is, fine so they claim the wheels they supply are top quality, pity about their attitude towards potential customers.

£600 ! :o

£600 ! :o

Thats what I thought, I don't like them as much as the CH's but for genuine BBS wheels I am considering pimping out swmbo, it should only take a couple of years for her to earn enough.... :giggle:

I quite like these.

Nice design. The spoke runs right to the edge so they'll look "big" for 18" i think (a good thing).

Et 42 should be nice in the arch too.

The only thing to consider is the machined finish - i had monzaII diamond cut wheels on my old Golf GTI - look great but v hard to get refurbished properly if you scrape one.

That would be my concern and the other problems with polished finishes apparent on Monza's. Agree entirely re: the spokes, the bigger the better imo.

Using an offset calculator the wheels will sit approximately 15mm further out, which if I'm honest is a bit further than I like (fitted 15mm spacers on the Zeniths, took them off after 10 minutes). The CH reps' I have seen all seem to be between 35-42 offset apart from the ones from the rude seller I quoted on the previous page, they are ET45 which imo is perfect......:wall:

What's the logic for changing?

OE wheels undergo a whole lot of testing so they are generally very durable but sometimes a little heavy as a result. If I was changing I'd either want to go for something lighter (improves ride, handling etc) or something bigger (fills the arch better, improves aesthetics) but only if i could do that without adding any weight and for any change i'd only want to buy something I knew had OE levels of qualitiy, so for me, genuine BBS, Ronal, Borbet, Speedline, Team Dynamics, Compomotive, ABT, Oetting, OZ (?maybe) would be the preference, and a painted or powercoat finish for durability.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious. :)

I only thought about changing as I found the BBS reps for only a little bit more than the cost to refurb my Zeniths.

I have to say that I loved my Compomotive MO's in white on another vehicle a few years back. Nice and light, proper motorsport pedigree and durable as hell.

I wonder what a set of white http://www.comp.co.uk/wheels/popup.asp?wheel=36 would look like on a Race Blue octy..............? :-)

Chavtastic in white - imo of course, but the colour in the link would look  on blue or black......in a good way that is.

Compomotive = made in Wolverhampton.

Love compomotives, I wonder how much a set would set me back. Someone advertised 2nd hand MO6s of his Audi S3 but wanted £900 for em, that's a bit rich for me.
