Pre-FL grille on FL Octy?

Featured Replies

Title says it all, really. Does anybody know if a grille intended for a pre-FL model will fit an FL? Apparently the FL grille will fit on a pre-FL cay - apparently.

Thanks!

One would assume either are interchangeable, so my answer would be yes it should be a straight swap.

No, the pre FL grille is completely different to the FL.

They will fit as the mounting points are in the same place and the aperture are the same size as the bonnet hasn't changed. The Chrome surround was made wider and the black grille made differently. But the physical dimensions are the same.

Part no's are:-

1Z0 853 668 B41 - Satin Black Grille - £28.96

1Z0 853 661 739 - Chrome Surround - £56.34

3U0 853 621 B MEL - Skoda Badge (as they are secured differently) - £15.08

Total - £100.38

I stand corrected.....

Although, comparing the pre FL and FL front ends, while the grille may physically fit, due to the curvature of the FL grille at the bottom wouldn't you need to change the bumper and with it both wings and headlights??

The bonnet is the same part no. regardless of year. However the curve you have highlighted will probably require a bit of alteration to the front bumper if putting an FL Grille on a Pre-FL Car.

Going the other way will leave a gap below the bottom of the grill as, having just looked at mine the front bumper is stepped to take into account the curve.

Just done a bit more research and part no. 40 is added on to a FL Bonnet to take into account the curve. Just had a look at mine and it is riveted and screwed to the bottom lip of the bonnet.

So what does that mean then?

Like i said above you will prob have to alter the bumper to accommodate. But without physically looking I'm not sure to what extent.

So I'm going to delete my post and leave it that it won't fit

So it's probably best not to bother

The good news is you could fit a pre FL on an FL no bother.

Many thanks! I'm hoping before long to get my grubby hands on a new vRS, but I like one of the aftermarket sports grilles. Just thinking aloud, but it's useful to have the facts to hand.

So I'm going to delete my post and leave it that it won't fit

Fortunately I have quoted you......:moon:

The lower arc of the grille is different. The FL grille does fit on the pre-FL although it looks ****ty. The other way round might look better, never seen it tho...

You can see 4 yourself here: http://www.octavia-forum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=506920#p506920 - looks terrible. The other way round might be problematic because you can see a huge gap in the front bumber...

Yowza! I'm genuinely surprised it even fits that well. Learn something new every day :)

Thought it would be way off - clearly a trick of the eye. But yes, overall the fit and finish and leading edge of the grille are all far from ideal.

Interesting! i actually prefer the FL Grill i think it give a slightly sportier look. So whos going to go for the colour coded FL grill on a PRE FL car?

Not me, as I prefer the pre-FL grille.

+1

Although when coded, the FL does look nice, and with the FL headlights

aggressive......

I ment colour coded! :smirk:
