1.8 TSI or 2.0 TSI

Featured Replies

Hmmm pro's and con's! 1.8 TSi can not be remaped for more torque, but lol seems to prefer the 1.8TSi to his VRS! owners of the 2.0TSi loving them!

1.8 TSI starts to back off the boost and therefore torque at 4500 and this is an engine that revs to 7000 rpm. If you can get a customs remap to hold the boosst/torque at around the 250 Nm then at 6000 rpm, still 1000 before the red line you will have around 210 hp without the torque being over the 250 Nm.

99% I prefer my 1.8 TSI DSG which is an L&K also. Quieter, but screems higher when reved, does 5 mpg better than than the TSI VRS ie goes 60 miles or so further. One percent of the time, or less, when I overtake a wiesel on an A road for instance, I wish I had that extra power/torque. power plateau wider on the 1.8 TSI ie starts lower and finishes higher up the rev range just wish it continued to biuld using the 250 Nm to give the 200 hp plus but then it would detract even more from the 2 litre TSI sales.

Probably will not get mine remapped as I change my car every 18 months as I do 1K miles a week approx but have my fingers crossed the 7 speed DSG will be available on the 2 litre TSI Octy or Superb.

Cheers for that info lol, I have had my PD140 remapped to 180 and once it gets going it's fine, the TSi 1.8 is great off the mark but feels like I'm thrashing it when overtaking on a A road that's why I am intrested in the TSi 2.0.

Seems we both have the same issue lol! :giggle:

The 2.0 TSI delivers around 220-230bhp, the spec says 200. It's a huuuge difference between the 1.8 and 2.0. The 6 DSG is more smooth changing gear when you're going slow.

When comparing 1.8 and 2.0 TSI it's an easy choice, 2.0 TSI all days of the week! :D

I do around 1500 km a week mainly in the 1.8 TSI although I did about 15000 km in the TSI VRS whilst waiting for my 1.8 TSI DSG L&K to arrive.

The fact that the 1.8 TSI DSG can do 100 km further than the 2 litre TSI, it is quieter and with the L&K has more comfortable seats and suspension won it for me. I tend to criuse at around 125-130 kph here in the UK, and with all of the above points and the fact I would have to stop to refuel the TSI VRS rather than do the journey without stopping in the 1.8 TSI 7 speed DSG won it for the shorter stroke EA888 engine with the 7 speed DSG even though it was £2k more than the TSI VRS here in the UK.

Odd occasions I miss doing 0-100 kph in 7.2 seconds rather than 7.8 or 0-160 kph in 18 seconds rather 20 seconds but I have the SV650S to enjoy proper acceleration ie 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds and 0-160 kph in 9.8 seconds.

All EA888 engine variants are great, wish we had the variable valve timing the Audis get and 350 NM of torque as this gives ecomomy and power. Also hope we get a 227 hp version to celebrate Skoda UK getting the 2 litre production car record at Bonneville at 227 mph ie 365 kph matched with the DQ 500 box!
