Folding seats in Superb Estate

Featured Replies

Hi, all... is there any way to get the rear seat cushions to fold all of the way down to the floor, or otherwise out of the way, when you have the rear seats folded to make the biggest possible load area in the back? This is the ONLY thing I've found so far that's made me nostalgic for my previous Mondeo... on that, you could fold the rear seats to get a continuous flat load floor all the way to the back of the front seats. Visiting Ikea last week, I ended up with some long and heavy parcels "propped up" on the seat cushions hanging from a pair of metal rods over the voids of the rear footwells. They were obviously "strong enough" in that case, but it's a poor substitute for a flat loadbearing floor. I'm not so concerned about the "flatness", but I'd like to be able to get long packages up to the front seats without them hanging out into space...

best regards,

Matt

Don't think its possible I'm afraid.

What Car? (August 2011) ran a test with the Skoda Superb estate, Peugeot 508 SW and the Ford Mondeo estate and they too commented on how with the seats down there was a 'step' in the floor.

They also mentioned despite having the bigger boot (deeper) the Superb's shape meant that it was less useful than the Mondeo's which is both wider and longer with a completely flat floor.

Superb: 633 - 1865 litres

Mondeo: 537 - 1728 litres

508: 512 - 1598 litres

There is the "variable boot floor" factory fit option which I believe gives a flat floor with a small space under it.

The "Aluminium floor plates in boot with sliding partition and tether system (Estate only)" as standard in the SE/Elegance model still has a small step in the boot/passenger area.

For large loads I take a couple of blocks of wood for propping up the cargo.

The lack of a flat load area into the passenger area is one of the Superb's weak points. It is however even worse on the Octavia.

Pull the seat squab out, it takes thirty seconds and it sits vertically between the back of the front seats and the folded backrest of the back seat. Unplug the wires before totally lifting it out of position.
