donor slxi car for engine transplant

For less than 300 quid you can squeeze an extra 25bhp out of a 1.6

How so? I thought the general feeling was the 1.6 was at it's limit.

Given that the 1.6 pushes out 75 bhp, with the addition of another 25, that brings it up to 100. Isn't that what the 1.4 16v pushes out? Or would it better to do the 1.4 and work up from there?

(saving for 'upgrades' now ;) )

The original Golf GTi with the mechanical injection made 110bhp on that block as standard.

No it's a different block on those ken, those are more similar to the 2.0 8v blocks on a mk3 golf

I still think the best approach is to put a 1.4 16v afh engine in there. Simple, reliable, cheap, economical..

And plenty of rotten Polos to donate them!

ah yes, i'm glad i've seen that pic.. didn't realise the front firewall was double skinned like that, i'm going to be cutting a hole through there on mine to put the gear shift selector cables through..

quick question for you, is that hole above or below the brake linkage bar?

Hi there its below it mate not looking forward to chopping mine

i dont know what tooling you have available to you, but if you have an air compressor i would use an air powered sabre saw on that, you can get them from places like toolstation for £40 for a very basic one which is more than capable for the job, it would cut that out in a matter of minutes tbh..

what i would do is get some cardboard like the back of a cereal box and draw round the inside of the hole, cut it out and use it as a template and mark it onto the panel with a scriber, then drill a small hole to put the saw blade through then chop chop away!

p.s if you are scrapping the donor vehicle can you keep that power steering rack for me (if you are not using it of course)
