Boot Getting Wet!!! Help!!!

Featured Replies

Had my 03 Octavia vRS hatch for a couple of weeks now & absolutely love it!!! but......

Any ideas on how to stop water p'ing in when you open the boot lid when its raining?? it just seems to run off the sides, just in front of the spoiler, & onto the little shelves at the side of the boot. I have to then try & make sure it doesnt get into my speakers! any ideas, its doing my head in..!

Carry a cloth. Really, that's all I think anyone been able to come up with.

It is really annoying. Stupid design flaw.

echo the above.

not much you can do, i'm afraid :(

bloody annoying.

Same here. I wonder why these things havent been tested in any labs before they put it in production...

The basic problem is that a hatch is neither fish nor fowl. A saloon car's boot lid drains into the side channels when opened, while an estate's rear door protects owners from the rain when they open it. IMHO the hatch is an unsatisfactory compromise which is why I wouldn't have one....

now now denis, stop stirring, you mischievous so and so! ;)

you could try a wrc wing? maybe Lloyd can tell us if this helps?

Open the tailgate a few inches, then "shake" it up and down a couple of times (not really a shake - the gas struts will damp the movement, but you know what I mean...). This will make most of the water run into the drain channels either side.

It's not the perfect solution, but at least it reduces the amount of water spilling into the boot area.

I have found if you lift the tailgate slowly upto the horizontal position most of the water drains away ok. You can then let it lift open fully.

Not an elegant solution but it the main it works.

Oh.....you may also look a bit silly doing.;)

Looks like KLB got in before.....doh!

I'll certainly give that a try next time though... Can't be much worse as it is anyway :)

On rereading my post (as one does from time to time), I felt that the fish bit was quite apposite in the circumstances!

It happened last night to me, it also happened when i opened my window, water all over the mesh cloth.

What really drives me mad is cleaning the alloys, takes longer to clean the alloys than the car.

You guys take your RS's out in the wet?!?!?!? :-)

mine lives for the wet :D

BTW, nice weather in Cambridgeshire right now for fishing in the boot of a hatch.

Denis is that a comment or and invitation?

 You are on form today aren't you, Paul! Going to bed early does wonders for you. wink.gif

PS It's a rude comment....

You want to get some VAG alloys like mine. Nice and easy to clean in comparison. Not taking anything away from the style / look of the vRS alloys, eh?

(although it does take me longer to clean them, than the rest of the car too, by about 10 minutes)

:D

or do what i have done... get some TT six spokes and paint them black... then they never need cleaning;)

BTW Denis... these early nights are great until the bloody kitten decides it want you to play and uses its claws to open your eyes... it can fly now... though not as well as you...

What he really wants is some steel wheels. Cheap enough that

when they get dirty you can just buy a new set... :D

Rob.

now thats lazy...;)

Wonder if my wheels would look nice in black? Should I take a tin of hammerite to them?

I actually need to sand & lacquer my wounds. Apparently it stops corrosion getting in.
