rear tyre wear

Featured Replies

looking for help as to why the rear tyres on my octavia are wearing excessively on the inside edge ?

Unfortunately the reason is because it uses the same chassis layout as all the Golfs Audis and Seats which suffer this type of tyre wear - it is a horribly common phenomenon and there are many many threads on here about it. Uneven tyre wear is pretty much always due to alignment issues. When you replace the tyres make sure the tracking and alignment is checked and set properly by properly trained mechanic so that you avoid your new tyres going the same way. Check other threads for suggested tyres too... Michelin PS3, Continentals, Hancock seem to find favour.

Do Ford Focussessess suffer from the same issues? The reason I ask is that I believe that VW poached the lead suspension designer from Ford who was responsible for the design of the Focus rear suspension and I believe the two are quite similar in operation.

Perhaps Ford 'let him go' to scupper VW's reputation ;)

Yup, the exact same thing happened to my Mk1 Focus, that's how I identified what was happening to my Octy...

No rear Tyre issues for me on my FL vrsTG.

On another thread on this topic someone published the old and new recommended settings.:

Old values are: -1°45' ± 30'

New values are: -1°20' ± 30'

If your car is set up to the bottom half of the old setting range, eg at -1°15' to -1°50' it is within the new range.

Could be that those who have problems, have cars set up at the top end of the old setting range. ie at -1°50' to -2°15' which is outside the new range

SEARCH!

How many threads do we need on this subject :)

Where in Wales are you? Im South and took my car to mototec in pontllanfraith. very good and fixed the problem of excessive wear on the insides. The tyres only last me 6000-9000 miles on the back now but they do wear perfectly even...

6-9k from a set of tyres on the rear? What the hell are you doing to them?!

who knows, ive given up trying to find out whats wrong as everyone tells me that they are fine! Maybe i should slow down at the roundabout??LOl! Its depressing i know! :D

I have the same problem excessive wear on the inside edge ,and terrible tyre roar in the cabin . Got it booked in for Saturday to get the alignment checked . I might have to get the tyres changed too ,only had the car a week !

Yes, you'll need to change the tyres unfortunately after the alignment's been sorted, if they've already been subjected to sawtoothing.
