Fuel Filter

Featured Replies

So guys...Whats the trick? Never some across a filter change so stressful before. I dont like the idea of "force" as i assume the fuel lines will break.

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but the lines have release clips and once depressed correctly should pop off quite easily. It is a bit of a fiddle, but 'force' shouldn't be required (at least when i did mine).

Sorry, i ment how do i release the "clips"? I cant see anything that resembles a clip :(

In your top pic the clip is the black thing right next to the filter housing. I think you need to depress a part of it on the collar (fatter part) of the clip with something like a flat headed screwdriver and off it pops. Same with the lower clip. You just have to find the bit of the collar that depresses. Hopefully someone else can post who can confirm or give better guidance.

Also i assume you will release the pressure on the fuel line before removing?

Its a flat tab which needs pushing in with a flat headed screwdriver.

What he said. You have to push the circled part in and the pipe will come off.

Don't forget to depressurise your fuel system first though by removing the fuel pump relay fuse and letting the engine run till it dies.

Unless you want a facefull of fuel.... Like what I got on my mates Nissan Note (classy motor ), when he diconnected one of the hoses and I was in the firing line. :dull:

what is the suggested mileage for the fuel filter chage? Is it a service item?

Also, where is it, & where is the fusebox?

thanks :-)

You can just push the release buttons in with your fingers, a bit safer than using a screwdriver. Press the button in, then push the connector in towards to the filter to get it moving if you know what I mean. Then it should just slip off with no effort. You can have a practice though, as the exact same clips are used where the feed and return lines from the fuel rail connect to the fixed pipes in the engine bay. Just by the brake fluid reservoir, it's the weird looking plastic box with 3 lines coming out of it.

I didn't remove any fuses either, and didn't get sprayed. I just let the car sit for a while after driving it, so any residual pressure could fade away. I did remove and refit the filler cap, but not sure if that really helped! I followed the same procedure the other day when I had the fuel rail disconnected.

The only problem I had when changing mine was getting the damn Norma clip off that holds the filter on! Twas a persistant bugger!

Aye, they seem to like to rust on. I had to resort to griding mine off. :o Not a good idea when working next to a fuel tank I know.. It's now held on with a big cable tie instead.

I got under mine this afternoon & had a lookie.

my fuel filter metal clip doesn't look corroded at all.

I have a plastic undertray fixed to the underside of the car covering the filter up, which I would need to (maybe only partially) remove to access the filter.

Do all Octys have this rear undertray?

Mine didn't.

Can you get a pic, as some octys have guards fr brake lines etc under them. Maybe yours is a special model of something.

wtf is that!

Never seen one of those before!! :o

Are you 4x4?

No 4wd, just a 1.8t Elegance...with added weight apparently :S

Is that thing metal or plastic?

Is that thing metal or plastic?

Plastic, it's cracked in a couple of places as it happens, not to the extent it's gonna fall off any time soon though

Never seen one of those before!

Looks like it could be a heavy duty fuel tank guard.

It's a big sukka! Can you see it when stood next to the car?

What year is your car? Does it have the "rough road" pack or something maybe..

Well it's a '52 reg 1.8t Elegance, no idea if that thing was part of any pack bought as new as I bought it second hand in March '09.

You can see part of it (the right angle bit) from a distance without bending down, sort of look like mini mud flaps but in front of the wheels

Mine has it too.

I 'm the first owner and the car is the 2001 modell (elegance).

I had this on my 1.8T Elegance too. Thought everyone's did :S
