Brakes Judder

Featured Replies

I got new brakes and discs fitted on all corners in February, since then I have noticed when I put the clutch down and brake pedals down the car judders through the steering wheel, worse when slowing down at high speeds. It is a fault with the brakes or maybe the clutch?.

Sounds like a brake issue to me. I would deffo get it checked out as you can't be too careful

brake without touching the clutch..if still judders its the discs.

Have you checked that the caliper bolts are tight? Maybe warped discs?

Mine did this after I got a stone caught in the caliper. Take your wheel off and rum your finger from the outer edge of the disc to the inside if there is any raised spots discs and pads need replacing. If the disc face is smooth then strip down caliper and check pad material these should be worn unevenly if discs are smooth. Try lightly standing the raised spots on the pads till all pad surface is smooth. If the raised spots are really bad then ideally u want discs and pads again.

Contacted the mechanic who fitted the brakes and he said and he is having a look at them during the service in a few weeks. He said the brakes are under warranty.

After the service the mechanic said it was the rear bushes of the front wishbone which needed to be replace but I was sure the brakes was at fault so I took the car to 3 other garages which the mechanic was not happy about I was told by the 3 garages that yes the bushes were showing signs of cracking but no way will it make the car judder like it was doing. The chap replaced them today and he showed me the old discs and pads and they were all ok he was going on he has been a mechanic for 40 years ,17yrs trained Skoda mechanic and he was certain it was the bushes so we went for a drive with the new discs fitted and in 10 mins they were no judder. Getting the bushes done at another garage. He was annoyed that i did not trust him but I told know my car and the brakes were not right.

Probably some cheapo pads he threw in there.
