Bolero + Pre Facelift

Featured Replies

I did do a search but didn't turn up too much.

Is it possible to fit a Bolero to a Pre-Facelift Octavia?

Namely my 2006 one when I get it this week... :D

Yes,

I too was looking at the HU in the for sale section. Look for Wardy's Bolero thread from a couple of weeks ago, he tells you which revision of Canbus you will need to buy

Matthew

PS.. I like your new signature picture

LOL cheers - I spotted this reply in the Bolero thread too :)

I think the Bolero is a great HU - having had the pleasure of one in my 2010 vRS I had.

Cheers for the sig pic... I'll put the "real" car there when I get it :D

You sir, are an absolute gem.

Many thanks

NP.

I hope its still for sale.

I've just fitted my Zenec, the only downside is I now want to upgrade the speaker to take full advantage of it :giggle:

All the best with the new motor

The Stream radio is not a patch on the Bolero, if I can get it to work then ill be a happy chappy

Thanks again for your help

One point of note - if you buy a Bolero from a 2010 MY car they are a different manufacturer than the earlier Bolero.

You will need the new CAN Gateway to stop battery drain, your steering wheel volume controls won't work with it (but next/prev track will), the screen will be extremely dim unless you flick the headlights on and off to kick the backlight in to action, you will not get any display on Maxidot from the Bolero, and the SD card has a limit of about 1000 mp3 tracks, regardless of the size of the SDHC card (I have a 32Gb which has about 18Gb of mp3s on it).

Earlier Bolero's will still need the CAN Gateway upgrade, but will have none of the other issues in 2006MY cars. They will however require a firmware upgrade (dealer only - unless it has already been done) otherwise it takes them about a week to index a 32Gb SDHC card every time you turn them on.

The later Bolero's are designed for FL cars only and have small niggles with pre-FL cars. Nothing major, the only annoying point is the backlight really.

Edit - you can't use the boot mounted CD Changer with the newer Bolero's either.

Yeah the boot mounted CD changer is redundant by having 6 CD's in the Bolero itself, so that's no problem.

Due to all the other issues though it might not be worth all that extra effort. The Stream is "nice enough" given I don't travel more than 20 minutes most journeys.

Only applies if you get a Bolero from a 2010 or 2011 Model Year (not registration year) car. I am more than happy with a 2010 Bolero in mine, seeing as I have CH/LH lights turned on, most of the time the headlights kick in and the backlight comes on anyway.

What MY is your car - you mention it is 2006, but I presume it is registered in 2006. That means it could be a 2006, 2006.5 or 2007MY.

Fairly easy way of telling is which HU did it come fitted with - Stream or Stream MP3 - IIRC Stream MP3 became standard on 2007MY and you may not have the same issues with a 2007MY car as quite a bit of the electronics was upgraded at that point.
