Sump Removal Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI SLX 1999

Featured Replies

I have managed to remove all bolts from the sump fairly easily. The problem I have now is that there at least three bolts that I cannot get any tool on to because they seem to be sat just under the transmission housing and next to the fly wheel. I read that a tee handle 5mm ball end hex tool works but to get at these bolts you have to more or less go in at an angle.

I have managed to use a 10mil socket on most but they last three bolts I can see clearly but cannot get a tool onto them.

Please help

Are you replacing the sump because of damaged thread on the sump plug? if so you could buy this instead of removing the sump:

Hi. I have to take the sump of becuase there are three cracks on the sump will hold no oil. Luckily I live next to a welding engineer who welds aluminum and he has told me he does work on many sumps. I have just been lucking at tee handle 5mm ball end hex tool. The hex tool I have been using was 4mm and still it fitted the bolts. But everyone one various threads have suggested a long 5mm ball end hex tool.

I am sure a new sump is not a huge amount of money. For peice of mind i would get a new one. I weld myself and to weld oil contaminated cast ali is a bitch

You read correctly, a ball end hex tool works and allows you to remove and replace the bolts from an angle. They don't cost too much to buy.

Or a 10mm socket on a 1/4" wobble bar extension works fine.

I used a 5mm hex ball end tee shape on the screws at the gear box end and it worked. You know how difficult they are to get to right? However, the last screw i need to get out as been rounded off so the hex key will not bite. So the only way round is to use a short 10mm socket on a wobble bar as my normal size 10mm and long 10mm socket will not fit onto the screw becuase of the area and position it is in.

I may now cry!

How annoying :(

I had a few bolts which didn't come out smoothly and didn't go back in as a result, but they were the easy to reach ones. I figured that not all the bolts were strictly necessary and so long as the larger majority went back in them it should be fine.

I just hope that the 1/4 wobble bar extension will work. I figured out that I had to cut my 10mm socket down so that it could sit flush on the screw gear box end. I think the wobble bar is my last and final resort.

Why take it to a garage that will charge me hundreds to refit a new sump when all it is a few screws 2 bolts and sealent? They may tell that the transmission will have to be seperated. Why? just for one screw?
